So the power on/off issues may have only occurred for the first restart after Software version 5.1.5711.06jfa(NZ) was released and received by your VTV plus on prior versions on multiple days, but hopefully won't occur tonight/tomorrow or in the future (except perhaps upon the first restart after an update).

This is an interesting theory. I use my device infrequently and last night, when I was having significant problems, was probably the first night that I used it since the most recent update. I tried turning it on again just now and it started up without any fuss.

I will try it again tomorrow night and report back.

Tonight my unit reported no internet connection when I turned it on, and eventually connected after a few minutes.

So, that would appear to rule out the theory that the fault only occurs immediately after a software update.

I wonder if this could be due to your router being set to Auto Channel and changing it's channel between certain times that you use it and the VTV not detecting this change for a period of time when it is turned on.  Perhaps you should talk to Vodafone to setup a fixed channel for 5GHZ WiFi on your router, selecting a channel that is a New Zealand channel compatible with the VTV. It would be good to have @Sansom's comment on this and whether the 1500 MTU/MRU setting on the internet connection may be a cause and if the could try 1492.

I will try this tomorrow. Almost makes sense. I just want the thing to be connected and running when I turn on the tv in the morning with out power cycle and Ethernet reset, then I can work on the set-up issues with Bravia sync and one touch remote settings.

Ughhhh... Face it... We are Beta testing for Vodafone. I wonder when they will want us all to stress test their servers 🤣🤣🤣

Spyware:

There was never 2.4 GHz support.

I thought I saw 2.4GHZ SSIDs some weeks ago but I may be wrong.

@Sansom when are we going to get Amazon Prime on the General Public release please as it certainly seems to be working fine for me on the Beta test, and I would like to use it on my other VTV which is not on the Beta test. I note that it was mentioned in an email recently from Vodafone outlining new features.

I’m guessing you’re serious about ditching it - but joking about throwing it away/recycling. It could be a difficult discussion regarding CGA if you took it back to where you bought it. How could you demonstrate or prove the problems?

Maybe you bought it direct from VF. I wonder if they would reimburse you - it would pretty much be an admission of the issues raised in this thread - fitness for purpose and using customers as beta testers.

Video the problems and you have evidence. Simple as that. I imagine it would difficult to get it to connect to different address as discussed earlier in this post

I think a printout of this thread would be pretty compelling evidence that there are fundamental design flaws with the product.

Move to New Zealand's best fibre broadband service (affiliate link). Note that to use Quic Broadband you must be comfortable with configuring your own router.

@mikeb4, if you end up finding an alternative device that works well then it would be interesting to hear your experiences. Perhaps you could start a seperate thread if you have time.

I disagree on that @alasta et al. I don't think it is a beta product. It is evolving and somethings are like that.

We actually have a private beta test group that runs newer, unreleased versions and people on that group know they are testing.

A retail product should not be an evolving product unless clearly stated so buyers make informed decisions. This is sold as a market ready product and as such should meet the conditions of the CGA  especially being free from fault.

I rather have this than some TVs and phones that never have an update or fix...

I have been through a month of contacting Vodafone multiple times trying to get my VTV gen 2 box to connect and be stable on Wifi. Some Vodafone techies did not even know about the gen 2 box and I kept being asked to video the box to prove it had a wps button.

In the end I finally got through to a Vodafone techie who knew what he was talking about and also was an example of good customer service. The solution was simple, we changed the router channel setting from auto to a specific channel and it has been fine from that point onwards.

Router and VTV box less than 3 metres apart.

An even better solution is to spend about $6 to buy a cable to connect the two devices.

You didn’t have a problem with the VTV but with your home network.

@MikeB4 I assume you have checked that any static IP addresses you have set on your network are outside of the range of IP addresses managed by your DHCP server on your router in order to avoid transient IP address conflicts which could also cause similar symptoms to what you are encountering.

I disagree. Beta testing is done by members of a seperate forum. What we are now encountering here is user environment specific home LAN and WAN problems due to configuration of devices on the network encountered by a consumer device some of which may be able to be handled by additional processing by or changes the firmware of the consumer device and some that may require configuration changes to other devices on that network. VTV Gen2 is an evolving product which I see as having a lot of potential. Sky was a similar product but it had less interactions with other devices to consider. I think we should give VTV Gen2 a chance to evolve including the future evolution of a scrubber which will hopefully sort out the rewind and fast forward problems yet to be sorted out for channel viewing.

It appears that Amazon Prime Video App has now been released on the VTV Gen2 Set Top Box.
