What a great move, Vodafone:

It's thanks to Sky also.  As always, there are important terms and conditions (that were cut off the bottom):

* Sky TV Starter Trial: Available until 24 January 2020 for all Vodafone TV customers who do not have a current Sky subscription.

** Free trial ends if you purchase any Sky channels or packages during the trial period.

Is it at all possible to do the same Channel Sorting that Sky has? e.g If I'm Soho then the next channel I'd expect to see is Soho 2 instead of having to go way down the channel list to find it

Hammerer:

I was really piqued when I first got the box because we lost so many features we had on the earlier T-Box. But those emotions have long faded away and it does help that I've recommitted for another 12 months and I'm happy that I'm only paying $77 a month for unlimited max speed HFC, home phone and VodafoneTV even if it is only Gen1.

Actually, there is one feature of the Gen1 box that I don't want to lose, the digital sound outlet which I use to divert the sound through a surround sound system.

Agreed, actually changed from a T-Box less than a month ago (on a new sharply priced 12 month plan with HFC max) it's like hmm, I can't record EVERY show anymore, and rewinding (without using 20 sec skip) is tedious but the ability to catchup / on demand stuff makes up for that, it changes the way you watch TV, it doesn't matter if you missed it or forgot to record it.

You go from channel skimming "there's nothing I'm interested in watching" to "that was on earlier, I can watch that".

It's an epic merger of traditional TV and internet. I'm not sure how it compares to SmartVu.

Admittedly have never used a gen2 so don't know what software improvements it has.

Thanks Vodafone and Sky for the opportunity to try out the Sky package so that I can consider whether it's worth subscribing, and thanks @sansom for your ongoing participation in this forum.

I may have missed it, but I don't think you have made any specific comment in regards to Ivan's theory that the VTV can't cope with the channel hopping behaviour of the Ultra Hub (and presumably other non-Vodafone issued routers). Do you agree that this has been an issue and, if so, has it been fixed in the newly released firmware version?

Well no sorry, your words are quite plain  - “Gen2 users ... have more skin in the game”. Not much room for misinterpretation there.

A different example: we used to run a Geekzone pizza event sponsored by telcos and free to attend. We would book - and pay - for 65 people and only 40 would show up. Regardless of numbers we would still have to pay for the full 65 booking as it was a set menu.

We then started charging $10 per ticket - going towards a bar tab. After that attendance reached 100%.

The thing here is "commitment". When someone put the hand in the pocket to pay the $10 they are committed. Similarly here - people on VTV Gen 1 seemed very happy because we had practically no discussion on the device until now. When the VTV Gen 2 showed up and people started having to pay for it then there was a commitment - people started providing feedback, participating in beta release tests, etc.

It's just a different mindset.

I received an email 4th December saying they are going to do that.
No time frame though.

great news, thanks all involved.

I can access this by searching for an individual program that I know is on one of the channels, but the channels themselves are not showing in the TV Guide.....am I missing something here or will it be updated overnight (yes I have it on ‘all channels’ list)

I suggest pulling the power cord and waiting 30 seconds, then inserting the power cord and powering on and off with the remote a few times. giving it about a minute between tries. This seemed to do it for me. Also note that under Settings, Content, Sky needs to be set to Show.

@gdub have you turned (unhide) the SkyTV channels back on in settings?

Grant I believe the problem is that Sky on their EPG doesn't organise them sequentially by channel number but by some other metadata key, which places SOHO2 after SOHO in the EPG, while VTV organises them sequentially by channel.

Also to confirm, how was this Sky offer communicated? I don't recall seeing an e-mail about it today (unless outlook.com blocked it without going to the Spam Filter first)

At that price I might pick up a second box. For $99 this box is absolute steal.
