Exactly. There are always issues that may arise and slow the release process, especially when computers/technology is involved, it's just the reality of the industry. Whats perceived as a lack of commitment could really just be savy management, we can't judge without the details. Unfortunately with estimated dates you're always damn if you do and damned if don't.

But they didn't! This thread probably wouldn't exist if it wasn't for the user who received an email from them, and decided to post on these forums!

That is a gross over simplification

1) They have shown a history of first announcing things on geekzone - case in point asking geekzone users to be asterisk testers

2) If they were really worried about the word getting out in public about their plan there would have been confidentiality agreements

3) One of their staff on gameplanet dropped massive hints about it before that email was on geekzone I believe

4) Phil (maverick) has confirmed the  existence of the plan

Just because they didn't care about it getting out doesn't mean they'd have made an official announcement about it though, does it?

After the posts on Geekzone and this thread, he can't exactly deny it...

maverick: Guys, we have to make sure we have covered all things, appreciate there is a lot of interest in this but?as most of you know our plans are generally worth waiting for?and we need to have all the details correct......just a bit longer.....

I totally understand how important it is to make sure everything is covered but i personally believe it would have been better for Xnet to have said that the plans would be out of the end of May, that way if you released them on say May 25, everyone would have been really happy. Now if they are released on May 25th, people would have been frustrated waiting.

I'm not really complaining, I love xnet! it's just frustrating waiting and waiting :)

I agree, their hand was slightly forced there

Detruire:Just because they didn't care about it getting out doesn't mean they'd have made an official announcement about it though, does it?

I tend to disagree - I think the two go hand in hand, they aren't stupid.... marketing by hype can be very, very cost effective

Detruire:After the posts on Geekzone and this thread, he can't exactly deny it...

To some extent yes, they could have remained silent - likey they have over in the 30 page international speed issues thread. However Like I said, one of their empoyees was dropping hints elsewhere before the email popped up on geekzone

I didn't say that they wouldn't have, but that they may not have. I have no more of an idea if they would have than you do.

Laughing...WE were happy for it to be out here first, since I personally passed this on at the Geekzone event in Wellington, the exact details will be avialable with the plan, also funny how one other provider now has come along with the same thing Tongue out after it was on here...and you wonder why we try to keep things a bit quiet, but we won't give all the details until the plan....And yes I can actually keep a secret if I have to and don't need to reply to every thread or question as I have previously stated,

We have to listen and have a very thick skin when you participate  in these types of forums, the mods do a great job but we know we will never satisfy eveyone and honestly unless you are directly involved in a Telco business it will be pretty hard for most people to understand the commercial plans / billing / network topolgy of ISP's/ Telco's , most of us have been at this for a long time and you have to know what your doing, we like to share info where we can and we do so freely in most cases but a lot of comments are a litle bit of base.

Well Maverick, I for one appreciate the advanced 'official' heads-up on new stuff like this, it gives me something to look forward to!!

It's also refreshing to see an ISP who jumps on problems as quickly as you guys!!  Some companies wouldn't even acknowledge that there was an issue!!

Keep up the great work!

Sam.

TheBartender: WxC/Xnet have a habit of doing this...not setting an exact date for the launch of a new service or planned changes/upgrades etc...that way, they can never be accused by customers or others of not delevering what they promised.

I think thats a bit harsh - they didn't have to come out and say they were in the works of creating a new plan...

perhaps next time they won't keep geekzone users in the loop.....

I too had been told of this plan prior to this thread, at the Geekzone Pizza event.

It maybe harsh, but its true.

I too asked about the redesign of the xnet website, due to its poor design and cohesion...requiring multiple logins etc...and was told it was in the works, not far off, but that to has failed to materialise...

I am not complaining, just being honest, stating that obvious, that better could be done and letting their customers know whats happening and when exactly helps with that process.

On this yes we are working on it, but it's not actually about design, it's about multiple systems all having to talk to each other, to have a system that actually talks to the Tolls Network, ISP Network and VFX network is not about Web Page design it's about the backend and talking to totally different applications and when they all need a different interface connection it will take time, what you will see from us is ongoing improvements Bartender not a release of a single magic portal in a few weeks.

I agree with it being a drawn out process to get multiple systems to talk to each other. its not all about interface, so much the backend that drives the interface. As for the plan, let it come, dont be impatient. If you dont like the service, go somewhere else with your hard earned $$ :)

I'll be sticking with Xnet, then have proved to be ample for my needs, and always quick to help fix issues.
