I think I had better luck #Eva888, I emailed the sender of the "quote for the renewal" of my contract.  He rang me back and we had a sensible conversation.  The Sky issues are obviously related to the way Sky now packages their product sets and is outside of Vodafone's control.  The lack of features on the VTV box compared with the T-Box is unfortunate.  I currently have Downers booked for the week after Anniversary weekend.

All covered here in this article, I suspect a good number of people will be confused by the headline and think the hfc network is closing

I wonder if retiring HFC is their  long term plan.  This is phase one.

Its inevitable it will hit a threshold where the market opportunity is small compared to using fibre. Im surprised theres only 6,500 affect tv customers. But equally, fibre is a paid for monthly service, and the costs for it go up every year regular as clockwork, which will push voda/spark/2d to keep pushing their mobile networks as alternatives to fibre.

It will definitely be retired at some point, but they're currently making a pretty big investment in getting another 'life' out of it through the DOCSIS upgrade i.e. if they wanted to kill it in two years time, they wouldn't be spending time going into people's houses to install new modems. I'd give it another 5-10years.

Vodafone spokeswoman Rebecca Huang said it could understand that a lot of customers “would be very used to their Tbox and how it works”.

“Unfortunately the reality of it is that there aren’t like-for-like alternatives – technology has changed over the years.”

I'll paraphrase:  " No you can't fast-forward through the ads.  You will watch them and you will enjoy them!" 😜

Did Eric Clapton really think she looked wonderful...or was it after the 15th outfit she tried on and he just wanted to get to the party and get a drink?

Move to New Zealand's best fibre broadband service (affiliate link). Note that to use Quic Broadband you must be comfortable with configuring your own router.

I agree that the way Sky packages their products is the problem so what was named Sky Starter by Vodafone is now Starter, plus Entertainment package. In my case they have quoted me on just Starter and made another mistake which needs to be rectified so we can move forward.

I still have not heard back from the Agent by phone or email after leaving a message.

I don’t understand how you managed to email your agent. With my renewal email, there is a no reply address and an address with a not monitored mailbox so I can’t contact him. Also the 0508 number in that renewal email hasn’t resulted in a call back.

Wasting time on this is frustrating and I can’t make the Downer appointment until it’s sorted.

We have been converting T-Box customers to DOCSIS 3.1 + VTV for the last 12 months as customers take up various offers. The difference now is that DOCSIS 2.0 and T-Box customers must upgrade in the coming months otherwise the technology will stop working.

Vodafone is very committed to HFC.  As you say @antoniask, the alternatives (other than wireless) are very expensive.  A modern HFC network delivers a broadband service that Vodafone can be proud of, approaching Gbps speeds, and this initiative is the first of many initiatives to modernise our HFC network in Wellington and Christchurch.

As someone who lives in an HFC only area I'm very happy to read this. Thanks for the regular updates on this thread, this is the most open I've seen Vodafone about an upgrade/forced change on GZ. It's much appreciated!

Hi @Eva888 it sounds like you're being dealt with by a different team from mine (we supply 0800 122590 as the contact number in our communications).  If you ring and leave a message on this number we are monitoring it and responding within 24 hours on week days, sometimes much faster.  Apologies that you're getting a poor response from the other team, I'll have a word.

Phew :-)

Although, still looking like a poor deal for those of us who:

(1) bought the T-Boxes outright (I assume that means it's not a 'swap' and we can keep the T-Boxes since we own them - or VF will pay us for them), and
(2) have been on Docsis3.1 and 1000/100 for years.

Seems like it's removing valued features but offering no reduction in price for that; or the hassle of having to hang around and wait for Downer to do it's bit; and then set-up a new system - all before having to make time to watch stuff that we want to watch and that's been there for a while. And having to get a PVR for the "10%" (which is probably most of the stuff that people actually want to record and watch - and is the only stuff you can watch when the network is down).

Hmmmm.
