I would think the bad-will created by the forcing of people to change to vodafone fixed line instead of vodafone improving there coverage would negate those that see this as a good thing.

Also, if someone has a functioning decent connection from someone else over citylink, telstraclear cable etc, whats the use in a hardware solution that needs them to have a crummy old DSL connection installed? I expect the wellington takeup to be very very low as a result.

Lets all be a little realistic though,.. Vodafone like all mobile telcos world wide,.. just can't have service everywhere,.. that in itself is an impossibility.  So I really think that we should take the "Vodafone shoud improve coverage" out of the discussion, - hell who wants a great big cell tower in their front lawn.  This device is great and has been working at home(and business as I work from home) for a couple of weeks now,... and I stand by my original post,  its GREAT for those who don't have reliable reception like ours in the Waitakere Ranges... they certainly ain't going to put more cell towers out this way.  Further more while i did pay the original price of $349,  I was called by Vodafone this week and the offered a refund of $250 so that I would only be charged the $99 special promo price,... I thought that was a nice touch... Sure they have restrictions on using them as a broadband proivder,... them trying to increase their slice of the pie.. why not!,  wouldn't you??

I'd love to know what the uptake on these things are. I'm betting not many.

If you've been getting poor Mobile coverage from their network in the past then I imagine when you chose your broadband provider that Vodafone were right down the list.

If they removed the intense wing-clip it's been given by making iHug Broadband connection mandatory I'm sure it'd get a lot more uptake.

Who really cares about zero rated? Is it really going to that much data when you're not actively using it? (Actual question - is it? I can't see it would but I no nothing about cell-tower background network traffic) [Edit: As has been pointed out below anyone can connect so in an apartment situation it could be burning through traffic!]

Audiophiles are such twits! They buy such pointless stuff: Gold plated cables, $2000 power cords. Idiots.

How has the supercity changes helped out with putting sites in out backwards waitakere?

And I wouldnt mind one of the lamppost mounted type sites like 2degrees have out the front. So long as the antennas were high enough to be out of sight when looking out from the second floor windows which they seem to be.

Does the sure signal mean an end to other solutions vodafone have provided in the past to solve interior coverage issues?

If the guy in the next apartment over has a 3 gig bonus smartphone plan, and you are on a very non generous broadband plan, you would soon care about the zero rating when they motored thru your cap. With the limited upload of adsl there is a very real chance that someone using a phone could screw with your gaming if it was left on.

If someone powers down their sure signal while there is a call or data going thru it, does the call just drop or does the proper network recover it somehow? If they drop I can see that it would add to the dropped calls that people in weak signal areas already see if people are turning the box off because they are wanting to game etc.

As mentioned. It's a full 3G service cell site, which means DATA is routed through it as well...

Ver good point, I was only thinking house-in-the-country where you know who's connecting to your fetalcell.

Sure Signal is not changing new coverage deployments it's business as usual

Glenorchy is about to get 3G coverage. Site is built and in testing now with customers already using it.

Vodafone just last week turned on new coverage in Matangi Hamilton Waitako and Karaka Franklin South Auckland

Got one of these for my connection in Huia.

I had no signal before and it works a treat. I have a 3.2Mbps ADSL1 service (Vodafone Naked DSL). We appear to have a big backhaul issue at peak times (it's really a subexchange 20 KM or so away from parent exchange at Mt Albert I believe) which sometimes drops my peak time throughput way down, but it seems to work fine (my Worldxchange VoIP on the other hand suffers clipping in same circumstances).

You'll be on a Conkin, 4Mbps to feed all of Huia :(
