extreme: Thinking that ISP's hold enough peering/international bandwidth to give every client full speed at the same time is like thinking Bank's hold the same amount of money they lend out...

There's no way they could afford to do this though, unless customers want to pay them the going rate for a <x> mbit pipe.
(And no, what you pay for your residential DSL line _might_ buy a single mbit/s pipe, but probably not)

Ok, just got the WAF report... not good!

Complaints about email being the speed of dial up, images in her email coming up 'line by line'.

Seriously Gary, do you recall my reaction the last time TCL did something that upset my wife?

Sorry?  You're suggesting the plan of the weekend is just to upset my wife?

Back to full speed (15mbps).

Never once when below (as an average) ~60% of 15mbps.

Great success so far.

This is what I got

Test server is Chch.
Also, since this afternoon, all international traffic seems slow. However local servers are still ok. I were able to play BF3 on ON3 network servers for 23-30ms latency, there is no different from before. As long as I don't play on oversea servers. Not even Aus, their latency has gone up by 100ms, very bad.

Why are they having this free weekend? One reason there are quotas is so usage is controlled. It is a bit like everyone taking out their cars onto the motorway at the same time. It is going to cause congestion.

Trying to watch Netflix on my phone which is usually fine was unwatchable tonight with constant buffering and pausing. And that is 1245am!

zembla: Really happy for you guys who aren't feeling affected. It's completely farked my Friday night and presumably my Saturday & Sunday nights too.

Wow really? Talk about your first world problems right there. Perhaps you could use some offline hobbies?

Some of the reactions on here are genuinely disturbing... Sure my connection is a bit crap right now too, but it's definitely not going to ruin my night, weekend or life. I plan to be out in the sunshine enjoying the world! I highly recommend it ;)

Crowbar: Freitasm, quite obviously your issues are separate and not related to free traffic weekend, I thought your rant on your blog was completely uncalled for too.

This only became obvious AFTER some work was done on top of it. Until then it just happened that my connection died at the same time the unmetered flow started.

Of course correlation is not causation, but until this was cleared up... Meanwhile, when I tried to reach customer services I got the "we're closed message" when they are supposed to be open until 11pm.

So how YOU would react if you had work planned (yes, work) and had just lost your connection?

In other words, don't be so righteous right now.

Update: waiting for a new DOCSIS3 modem to be delivered. The folks last night found out the modem could not complete connection and for some reason the connection dropped under load. So this modem is going for a "study" and a different model will be delivered.
