Can linear timeshifted playback be added.

For example say its 10pm at night , I want to go in the epg, rewind the jones channel to 3pm then have continuous playback from 3pm until i decide to switch it off.

maybe an autoplay next program option? for continuous playback

or even play back from a specific time on a specific channel?

While unfortunate, it is comforting to hear that somebody else is also having problems with the Orbi...! Hopefully VTV firmware is enhanced further to be able to handle mesh networks.

@liquidcore it is unfair to ask VTV Gen2 STB to work over 2.4GHz just so that it will support Mesh networks that use 2.4Ghz as well as 5Ghz in a single Mesh because the demands of 4K video streams preclude this for the future. It would be fairer to ask the Mesh network providers to support a purely 5GHz Mesh for those requiring it rather than constrainingg users to the past.

@Sansom A compromise could be made by Vodafone if in VTV Gen2 STB Settings there was an option to turn off 4K support which enables use of 2.4GHz frequency WiFi Band as well.

Ivan Piacun CITPNZ

Hi, VTV only operates over 5GHz Wi-Fi for two reasons:

1. To better support 4K.

2. To support IP multicast

With VTV available on any ISP in NZ, we don't intend to use multicast for the linear streams.  However, VTV uses multicast in other markets where restricting the hardware to only support 5GHz makes sense.  It's unlikely we will get 2.4GHz support for a NZ only requirement.

In saying that, the VTV box should be able to on Orbi mesh.   We purchased and tested the Orbi gear in July/August and found an issue with the Netgear firmware that they then corrected.  Perhaps it has regressed / the fix deprecated since then?   I'll see if @Olof can chime in with some information to help out here as we did get it working well.

A valid question would be "Is the user sure their Orbi is updated to the latest firmware?"

IvanPiacun: @Sansom I was just watching Q and A, on One and couldn't fast forward past about 19 minutes from real time. When are the anoying ff and rewind problems going to be sorted please?

Ivan Piacun CITPNZ

Hi Ivan, this should be posted to the Beta test group. This is a known issue with the Beta release of visual FF/RW you are using.

Yes, great suggestion, we can put this forward as a candidate feature for a future release.

Hi both, my Orbi is on firmware 2.5.0.40 which was the newest until yesterday - a new version 2.5.1.8 was just released yesterday and I will update to it this evening.

I noted that the update was available, and attempted to perform it but got an "Error 030C Software Update Failed" error message after being on 0% update for a long time. Retry did not help.

What does this Error Code mean? Note: I am on Wi-Fi with the VTV Gen2 STB in question.

Ivan Piacun CITPNZ

Hi Ivan, is this with the Beta test version you are using?  I suspect it is.  DM me the STB number that's throwing this error and we can investigate.

@Sansom this wasn't on the Beta release. It was on my other STB.

I could not fast forward to live on Ellen after pasing it for about two minutes just now. It in fact jumped back to about 11 minutes from live and would not fast forward from there even though time was passing so it is now 17 minutes from live.
This was on my non Beta VTV Gen2 STB connected via Wi-Fi.

Thanks.  @Olof was involved in the earlier testing of the Netgear Orbi so I'll leave him to comment on this.

Yes please, this is what's nice about the +1 channels that are on Freeview and sky but not Vodafone TV, I don't know what licensing restrictions you have around this but even an hour would be good

Especially when I change to a channel where the programme has already started, choose to restart the programme (due to not being able to rewind), and then at the end (a few minutes after for padding, so you often see the start of the new programme) it jarringly switches back to live where often I'd rather keep watching (EG when you restart One News and would want to watch Seven Sharp after)

Well no sorry, your words are quite plain  - “Gen2 users ... have more skin in the game”. Not much room for misinterpretation there.

A different example: we used to run a Geekzone pizza event sponsored by telcos and free to attend. We would book - and pay - for 65 people and only 40 would show up. Regardless of numbers we would still have to pay for the full 65 booking as it was a set menu.

We then started charging $10 per ticket - going towards a bar tab. After that attendance reached 100%.

The thing here is "commitment". When someone put the hand in the pocket to pay the $10 they are committed. Similarly here - people on VTV Gen 1 seemed very happy because we had practically no discussion on the device until now. When the VTV Gen 2 showed up and people started having to pay for it then there was a commitment - people started providing feedback, participating in beta release tests, etc.

It's just a different mindset.

I agree that about the skin in the game but not about the lack of discussion for the Gen 1 Vodafone TV. There was a lot of it and it was predominantly negative with no real resolution of those issues and little engagement from Vodafone except to say that the software would be updated at some time in the future. What has changed is that Vodafone now has to commit to users with more skin in the game and they are actually engaging with customers in a way that should have happened with the Gen 1 boxes.

Check out these topics and see how there was quite pathetic support back then:
