Has HDMI-CEC been fully implemented yet?

Short answer no. Gen2 is currently running R5.1 software that does not fully support CEC. Support is coming in R6.0 that we are starting to test in late January.

In saying that, the VTV box should be able to on Orbi mesh.   We purchased and tested the Orbi gear in July/August and found an issue with the Netgear firmware that they then corrected.  Perhaps it has regressed / the fix deprecated since then?   I'll see if @Olof can chime in with some information to help out here as we did get it working well.

A valid question would be "Is the user sure their Orbi is updated to the latest firmware?"

Hi both, my Orbi is on firmware 2.5.0.40 which was the newest until yesterday - a new version 2.5.1.8 was just released yesterday and I will update to it this evening.

Thanks.  @Olof was involved in the earlier testing of the Netgear Orbi so I'll leave him to comment on this.

We did indeed do reasonably extensive testing with Netgear Orbi and found one intermittent issue with one customer. Issue appears to be caused by Orbi (for whatever reason) blocking HTTPS access to the Vodafone TV content management servers. We could work around that by putting in an explicit content rule on the customer's Orbi that allows outbound HTTPS access. (I know, this should not be required.) The customer logged a ticket with Orbi for this defect.

We then tried to replicate the customer's issue in the lab with exactly the same Orbi model and on the  same version of software. Unfortunately, we could not replicate the issue in the lab, meaning we could not raise it further with Netgear.

@liquidcore : It does not appear that the issue we saw with Orbi is the same as you are seeing. Could you please provide some further information on your issue:

  • What Orbi model are you using?
  • What software version are you running on the Orb?
  • Do you have any of the content filtering or parental control settings enabled on the Orbi?

Also, we pushed a new software release to Gen2 (57.11D) on Monday that contained a number of defect fixes. Can you please re-test and check if the Orbi issues are still there after the upgrade?

IvanPiacun: I could not fast forward to live on Ellen after pasing it for about two minutes just now. It in fact jumped back to about 11 minutes from live and would not fast forward from there even though time was passing so it is now 17 minutes from live.
This was on my non Beta VTV Gen2 STB connected via Wi-Fi.

Thanks for reporting! This is a known issue with the scrubber that you have available to you as part of the beta testing. We will not launch scrubber until this issue (and a couple of other defects) have been resolved.

Love the new fast forward/reverse showing thumbnails, pretty much like the way it is on NEON,Lightbox and the like.

Few issues:

- watching Survivor last 2 nights could not ff past 1h34m (last night), can't exactly remember where it stopped on Monday but was about the same, about 10 minutes from the end of the recording.

- had similar issue with TV3 news before

- few programs show just black thumbnails but can FF

Suggestion for improvement:

Change the 20 sec FF or REW to: 30 Sec FF and 10 sec Rew.

This way it will be easy to fine tune to the point you want to watch. (Had this on my MythTV setup and worked great :) )

@Olof As I said in my post this was on my VTV Gen2 STB which is not a part of the beta (so it did not have the visual scrubber), although I have noted similar problems on my VTV Gen2 STB which is part of the beta. I.e. I have two boxes connected on two different accounts.

Thanks for the response @olof. We have the RBK50 on 2.5.1.8 (firmware updated yesterday evening) with no content filtering or parental control settings enabled.

I also updated the VTV firmware last night and it appears to be a lot more stable this evening, so not sure which firmware update made the difference. I will let you know if we run into any problems - touch wood we don't!

I see that Noel Leeming now have the VTV Gen 2 on special at $99.99 following PB Tech doing the same. Is this service already on clearance? This level of price drop does make me nervous given the poor history of these services in NZ

Don't hold your breath as Voda won't upgrade the portal server until April when they have the budget.

Got caught out by the per-programme features today. My wife was watching a show with no catchup or record icons, and had paused it for a bit earlier so she was a few minutes behind the broadcast. When there were a few minutes of the show still to watch ... it suddenly stopped and started the next show on that channel. No way to get back to it. That was annoying.

After getting our second box today (both were under $100 on special, one from PBT one from NL, that was lucky) and registering to same website account as first unit, it now wants $25 per month for Sky multiroom if we were to purchase any Sky packages. Ouch! We might get Sky Starter when the current free period ends in late January but we would only want it on one box in the house. Looks like I may need to register the two boxes to separate email addresses to be able to do that, but I did not find a way to de-register one of them. Nothing about it on the website, and a factory settings reset on the box did not work.
