When jumping fwd or back 20 seconds I would prefer that all the onscreen graphics of the user interface don't get refreshed. A quick display of +20 or -20 is all that is needed

My unit has a new HDMI cable and is using a port on the TV that was successfully being used by the Sky box up until we swapped over.

Have you tried another TV port to rule that out is not the problem?  Are you on the latest Firmware jff, 1110 in settings?

Cheers

Yes to both. Also, the TV is less than a year old.

@MikeB4 have you connected the TV to the internet, if possible (maybe temporarily), and checked for firmware updates for it?

The TV is connected via wired Ethernet and is fully updated with the TV firmware in the latest version and all Apps on their respective latest versions.

We were discussing this product last night. My wife believes I have eliminated my network, internet connection and the VTV set up in our home. She pointed out that this product was sold as a retail product and nowhere in the promotional material and advertisements was it stated that this was an "in development" product. Nowhere in in the set up guide etc is ist stated that this is an "in development" product therefore it is a reasonable expectation that this product is sold as being fit for purpose and free of faults or defects. The notion that these products evolve and get improved over time does not hold water and in my opinion does not comply with the provisions of the consumer guarantees act.

My wife pointed out that no one would tolerate a new oven that for some reason not turn on the correct element or fan, a washing machine that would not spin the clothes or a cellphone that would not make calls. In her opinion and I concur the VTV is not a computer device that we add new software to ourselves and therefore will experience issues it is sold as a completed appliance that is supposed to provide a plug and play experience out of the box.

There have been a few folk here that have run through hoops to get their plug and play devices working as advertised. I believe it is time for Vodafone to fix or replace and if the product is in fact in an "in development"  state they need to be honest with this and compensate appropriately.

It seems so wrong. The new Dish product was like that as well.

Perhaps seek a refund?

By any chance can you post a small video showing the issue?

@Apsattv I am not going to sit in front of the TV with my phone hoping to capture a video of a momentary flash of black screen, grey screen or pause.

Sorry the way you were reporting it was if it was happening all the time

Can you try it on previously unused HDMI port? one that hasn't had the settings adjusted

It sounds to me like a HDMI handshaking issue with your set.

be sure HDMI CEC in your tv menu is turned OFF

That  crossed my mind early on and why I purchased a new HDMI cable. I have also tried different HDMI ports. I always keep CEC off as it's a messy feature that is problematic.  I am going to connect the VTV unit to our secondary TV and see what happens. It's worth noting that we can go several days or longer without this issue then we will get plagued with it until we power cycle. Also, when it starts this behaviour it will start slowly maybe a black flash at about 10 minute intervals, this will increase in regularity and also start micro pauses and eventually the black flashes will turn to black/grey flashes and last a little longer.

Do we know what apps may be in development?  I was interested in the Smart Vu X being Android TV based as I can then use all the normal apps but with it appearing buggy I'd rather have something more stable.  My nVidia shield is awesome except that the on demand apps are lacking for NZ and no native freeview built in ... This box seems to fit the bill locally except its missing a number of apps I would normally use...

Do we know if Voda NZ are developing apps for:

  • Plex
  • Disney+
  • Spark Sport
  • Sky Sports Now

How about game streaming software such as Steam or Parsec, would be a complete all in one entertainment box... thoughts?  I can use a rpi for the steam link stuff if necessary but I'm all about consolidating!

I run with HDMI CEC feature equivalents on a Sony Bravia all turned on and have not noticed any problems. @MikeB4 what problems have you noticed and are they still present with your TV. By the way what TV do you have and what devices do you have connected to it via HDMI?
