Currently I'm annoyed at TC.

On Friday got a call saying that they had some cancellations and would be able to install on Saturday. Time was set to between 9:30 to 12:30.

I waited around all morning and then got a call at 12:30.

"Sorry the technician can't do the installation because he doesn't have enough modems".

Obviously I expressed my annoyance in no uncertain terms at having to wait around all morning, when they would have known that they didn't have enough units, especially given the beautiful day we had here in CHristchurch on Saturday.

Was told I'd be put at the top of the list.

Now Tuesday afternoon and still haven't heard anything.

If they don't install mine on the date specified and quote a shortage of modem, I will tear them a new one and cancel my service, plain and simple

I filled in the online form this morning and got a phone call within 2 hours. You can't expect any better than that.

Now I have to wait until the 10th of May before they can install...oh well, can't have everything.

BTW, I'm in Christchurch.

Got mine today - BTW who knows the default logon details on 192.168.1.100 for the Cisco DPC3008 modem?

International download speed, downloading a 800MB nzb file with NewsBin, is 74Mbps...

Is your plan upgraded before the modem installation or on the same day ? I'd presume it would have to be upgraded before the modem was installed ? or is it dynamically upgraded when the installers on-site (instead of the usual midnight upgrade process).

Cheers.

I'm based in Kapiti, not bad speeds but need to upgrade my router and PCIe card as they are both only 10/100. Any thoughts as to which hardware to go for?

Also guys the new Cisco modem lets you know if your hardware is not maximising your connection as the link light blinks orange rather than green.

I have upgraded to:-

1) N900 Wireless Dual Band USB Adapter (WNDA4100)
2) N900 Wireless Dual Band Gigabit Router (WNDR4500)

and am very impressed with overall performance.

Could you log on to the Cisco modem?

Skillie, sorry, you won't be able to log onto the modem, just the 2 webpages that you hit from 192.168.1.1. giving you info about the downstream channel conditions, signal, MER etc.

<no user serviceable parts or software contained therein>

If it's any consolation, it's a really unfriendly, directory level based shorthand commandline, that seems to have zero contextual help and needed a mix of a Cisco/Scientific Atlanta tech and a Broadcom tech to drive it and deliver 'output' of use.

considering you're getting 94 megabit down you're getting close to normal 100megabit max speed anyway.  maybe 1 megabit off?  you may find a little difference - but not a lot - unless you're doing other stuff on the network at the same time.

if you're doing file sharing etc, i'd advise going for a intel chipset card.

This is HP, but is rebranded Intel card, and cheaper :)

otherwise if you want to save some money you could go for an el-cheapo realtek for half the cost.

http://www.ascent.co.nz/productspecification.aspx?ItemID=387807

other places may be cheaper.

for router, http://www.smallnetbuilder.com/wireless/wireless-reviews/31630-new-to-the-charts-tp-link-tl-wr1043nd-ultimate-wireless-n-gigabit-router?start=1 shows that even a cheap tp-link 1043nd should max your line out, although not by a large margin.

there's a chart at: http://www.smallnetbuilder.com/lanwan/router-charts/view

you can also get a boost using alternative firmware, although you may not want to bother with the hassles of such.
