gregmcc: Personally I'm finding it very difficult to justify staying with VF, they have a very bad attitude towards their existing customers, all they seem to want to do is attract new customers, which is not a bad idea, but looking after the existing customers seems more like something they do when they really don't want to do it.

From the recent experience of couple of friends of mine, they are no better towards new customers.
Some of our reasons for staying:
* Very reliable product from our experience (once they get it going).
* Freeview over cable, and a STB that works rather well now.
* Up to 50Mbs downstream sometimes. 2Mbs up is not so hot.
* Price includes a static IP.
* Quality Cisco modem, that I can attach my own router to.

Thing that continues to surprise me is how reluctant people are to get naked Internet and a caring company for the phone. We have been with WorldxChange VoIP for something like five years now. Goes well, more features, and costs us a truckload less than Vodafone voice.

On that subject, one of the abovementioned friends are waiting ... and waiting ... for phone over UFB. Anyone got experience on this?

I haven't needed Vodafone customer support - fortunately.
So far so good ...

+1 for that. Despite the issues I have had which I could complain about, the grass doesn't sound so green elsewhere. The cable connection has generally been great.

The speed keeps increasing while our costs keeps dropping.

Even if I do have to pay another $4 a month, I'm still paying less than I was a year ago for the same speed.

Got my letter today.

We definitely shouldn't have to suffer a price increase for made-up reasons and assuming they're covering costs on the DSL side then this will actually just be profit for Vodafone, for nothing.

The other part of that email, the increase in overage charges is also crazy - a 100% increase in price, taking it beyond what we used to pay as TelstraClear ($3/2GB). You can't blame that on Chorus either as it's upstream-related and nothing to do with the local-loop.

No UFB for me yet so I guess I'm stuck on cable, sucking it up. There's no way you'll get me on DSL - have been on cable since it was available.

Just got my January VF bill today - no word of a pending price increase.

I'm on VF cable 50/2Mbps Unlimited, and I am out of contract.
As others have said already, it seems that the controversial price increase is not being applied to all plans.

On that note. poor form of Vodafone sending an email with an attachment PDF - it would be a lot better to send the information on the email itself, knowing that some people don't open unsolicited attachments as it could be a vector for malware/phishing, with no indication the (ugly unprofessional looking) email was an actual official communication.

Remember Vodafone folks, there are lots of Adobe vulnerabilities around and adding a PDF to the mix just increase the chances of your emails being ignored/filtered/deleted.

You are on the naked plan, Mauricio, yes? I am on the 130/10 but with phone but still have had no notification of a price increase (and I checked my bill). I guess I will se what it says when I get my bill in February.

I have been slack about it lately but have been slowly moving more and more things from my VF email accounts just in case I decide to close it.

for what it's worth, Truenet testing suggests latency is no better on Cable than VDSL (and, on average, is actually worse)

Depends where you live.

I am very close to both Vodafone and Chorus cabinets.
But I definitely get a lower ping on Vodafone cable.

Faster speeds too. :)

Just from first impressions reading the threads here, looks like NI cable does not perform as well as SI cable in Chch.

If the cable performance continues (and VF don't try to over charge the service) then we would probably not migrate to fibre.

Just depends really.

Could that be because Christchurch cable is newer?
Will see how things go, but if Vodafone continues to behave as though customers are nothing more than money payment machines, then I'll look very closely at fibre when it eventually makes it to our street.

I used to have cable too, but have found the experience on VDSL to be much, much better (and cheaper). But, each to their own.

Where I am there's only ADSL2, no plans for VDSL ever and fibre only from June 2016. So the best I can have is cable really.
