Stu: @MikeB4 I think you have the VTV I should've ended up with. I quite often end up with the one-in-a-million fizzer unit! Thankfully, other than a couple of occasional glitches, the two I have here are pretty rock solid (knocks on wood). If a factory reset doesn't fix things for you, I'd be requesting a replacement.

I am going to try that. I have packed the thing away in the office and will look at it maybe next week.

I shall cross my fingers for you @MikeB4

People often mistake me for an adult because of my age.

Here's a thought ...

The Vodafone TV device started out as a one-off purchase at $179, now reduced to $149, and available on special with several retails for $95.

As per this thread, the thing is flakey at best … almost unusable at worst.  Presumably Vodafone receives a fee or portion of the retailers sales.

Also noted is that there is a Vodafone TV App available for free, BUT can only be used by those that have registered their Vodafone TV device.

Considering both the devices' recorded difficulties, and that a significant number of people like to watch TV using phones and tablets, why can't the Vodafone TV App be made available to Vodafone customers, even if for a small one-off, or inclusive in their not insubstantial monthly, fee?

Because the vodafone tv app pretty much only live streams SKY channels,  and if you don't have a sub what's the point?

You may as well just borrow a friends's sky go account.

My network consists of a Vodafone Ultra Hub plugged into the ONT, and no other networking devices. If that is incompatible with the Vodafone TV in its out-of-the-box configuration then I would need a technician to come over and set it up for me. Vodafone is promoting this as a plug and play product, which seems like another example of computer nerds assuming that everyone has the same IT knowledge that they do.

Mine as well, Running Vodafone hardware on Vodafone cable - unlimited broadband 500+mbs and ethernet all supplied by Vodafone. Nothing else.

I have a roku that runs perfectly, and snaps in Netflix.

There is nothing else in my system, yet when we showed a friend he laughed at us and said he would never put up with it. All we wanted was to watch free TV becuase we didn't want to connect to the aerial. Instead we have bought months of annoyance, just becuase we like TV1 news and some stupid cooking shows.

All this nonsence about "custom setups not being compatible" is just a rationalization.

@Netspanner youd don't say what your annoyances are. I know there has been considerable improvements in resilience with recent firmware updates, but there are still some fast forward/rewind problems at the end of restarted live programs.

@Netspanner how is your VTV Gen2 STB running now? Do you see occasional micro-pauses? If so I may be seeing something in common with other users with 500MBs to 1GBs connection speed that other people with 100/200Mbs connection speed are not encountering. It may be that Gen2 VTV does not buffer higher speed connections correctly due to internet bufferbloat or incorrectly optimised settings on the VTV Linux box for ultra fast broadband speeds. @Alasta what is your connection speed please? @Netspanner and other Geeks your comments please?

Also @MikeB4, and others, are the micro pauses noticed on VTV Apps as well as VTV channels?

My connection speed is 100 MBs, but I was not experiencing the disruptions and micro pauses that others have described.

My concerns were more around getting the thing to start up, and having to power cycle or re-enter connection details, etc. Once the streaming started it was pretty reliable.

@IvanPiacun This is not the reason. I am on Gigabit broadband and my VTV was working reliably on WiFi and is still working well on Ethernet. I am also on 2degrees. Parents are on Voyager with no issues also.

ZollyMonsta:

Oops ok, yes it looks like there is a problem. An internal ticket has been raised to have this resolved.

Looks like this has been fixed as of this morning.  Thanks.  🙂

Hopefully whatever the issue is can be avoided for a third year running, on 1 January 2021.

Hi All

I have the Vodafone TV 2nd Gen box. I have a new Samsung TV and Veon Soundbar. I have set it up fine with the new TV... and have got it running on the soundbar...however it has to run on stereo for some reason i cant get the Vodafone TV to run through Dolby Digital for the soundbar. Is this just how it is or is there maybe an underlying fault?

Cheers.

Hi
Thanks for the reply. Yes in the Vodafone tv settings I switched between both stereo and Dolby Digital. On stereo I get the sound on Dolby Digital no sound

Cheers

Does the soundbar support Dolby digital format?

All Veon soundbars I see on The Warehouse are either stereo or stereo + 1...
