Same as a mate of mine, he'd love fibre, but can only get ADSL2+. His speeds are okay but he'd like faster. No cable as he is in Auckland. He's sort of in the same boat as you re fibre timelines, but he's stuck on ADSL for the moment.

Vodafone have just posted their new cable prices on their website.

My plan has gone down:

VF cable with phone, highest available speed and data allowance:

2103    $156pm for 150 GB at 100/10  (plus $3 per 2GB overage)
2014    $139pm Unlimited at 100/10
2015    $109pm Unlimited at 100/10

As I won't have the UFB option until late 2019, this is good news smile

This is great news, I wonder where they managed to cut costs in order to decrease the price.

I just noticed that the price will increase by $10 after 12 months.

Where did you see this?  I couldn't find it in the small print.

12 months is a long time in the current IT climate - VF tend to bring out new plans once or twice a year.

The prices that I quoted do NOT include the $10 discount for "an eligible On Account mobile calling plan" - which expires after 12 months.

Sounds like there might have been a misunderstanding because the amount "$10" is used in a couple of differrent places.

So, for example... The "Ultra Fast with home phone - Cable Unlimited data" package at 50Mb/s is $99 a month, for the first 12 months - that's listed on this page
http://www.vodafone.co.nz/broadband/high-speed-cable/

After the first 12 months the price will increase by $10 from $99 to $109
http://www.vodafone.co.nz/legal/terms-conditions/price-changes-unlimited-plans/

If you have an eligible Vodafone On Account mobile you can link it to your broadband account and receive a $10/month discount. (E.g. $99(base) -$10(discount) =$89/month for the first 12 months, then $109(base) -$10(discount) =$99/month.)

If you'd like to go from 50Mb/s to 100Mb/s that'll be an extra $10 a month. (E.g. $99(base) -$10(discount) +$10(speed) = $99/month for the first 12 months, then $109(base) -$10(discount) +$10(speed) =$109/month.)

The Package Builder on our site has a great interface to choose the options that suit you. Thats here - http://www.vodafone.co.nz/internet/package-builder/

Clearly there are terms and conditions etc that apply and please don't hold it against me if I've got a figure wrong before finishing my coffee. :)

This is what Theresa Gattung meant when she talked about Telcos using "confusion as a marketing tool"

Seems like VF has taken over the mantle from Telecom as 'most confusing pricing model'

I feel sorry for your staff having to learn all this and then try and explain it to customers.  Must be an absolute nightmare.

Moving their support staff off shore I guess.

I phoned VF Sales this morning to confirm that the above details were correct - they were.
The phone was answered by a Kiwi in 5 minutes.
The VF rep volunteered the information that the price will go up by $10 after 12 months.

I totally agree with NonprayingMantis' comment re "confusion as a marketing tool".

My VF cable contract has now been changed 5 times in 24 months (fortunately for the better)

Can't say I am ecstatic about the $10 rise from $109 -> $119 for 100/10.

Will keep watching though and see if it eventually settles at $109 or $110.
Wouldn't really want to pay more than that tbh.

Slingshot have 100/20 unlimited for $89 last I saw.

I don't have a fibre option until 2019 - so cable is a "no-brainer" for me.
