You'll upset the little old ladies and their 3g flip phones.

And grumpy old men who have the phone for emergencies and think the world should cater to their requirements only.

Why are they extending it out AGAIN, this is starting to bug me. I have been waiting for the day this damn ancient 3g network would shutoff so I could finally have proper 4g coverage where I live, because I am sick of data that doesn't work at all, and calls dropping and cutting out. We are getting further and further behind the rest of the world every single time they extend it out so I dont get why they couldn't have stuck with a date. Plus it would have brought a whole lot more rural customers on board too with 4g being extended out when 3g gets switched off, One NZ would have had the most 4g coverage in the country!! Also quick question for anyone that might know, Why are they waiting for 3g to shutoff to extend 4g out? Cant it be done right now?

@Apsattv this handset was released just over 10 years ago

Looks like no VoLTE support so when you place voice calls it must hand down from the 4G to the 3G / WCDMA network

You can test this by placing a call then look at the 2G 3G 4G icon on the screen

@Apsattv as above you can do your own testing and Google search the model and what it supports.

Just looking at the specs, I'd say no. Six years old, I wouldn't bet on VoLTE support for it.

@Apsattv Really you can't pop a SIM card out of another handset for some quick testing?

Is there a way I can tell if my phone supports the VoLTE standard that One NZ uses?

I've seen reports that the lack of a VoLTE standard, or rather that different telcos use different standards, in Australia means there's many phones, even 1 year old, that won't work for voice after 3G is gone.

@jlittle when you place a voice call does the handset pass down to the 3G network or stay on 4G?

Look at the top bar and see if (Vol LTE) is shown:

Or place a call. If it stays on 4G/5G then it's using VoLTE. If it shows 3G then it doesn't support it:

So all Pixel phones won't work? I got sent an email from One saying my phone is incompatible and gave me instructions to check. I checked and every parameter they noted is already enabled as they expected. 🤷‍♂️
