jjnz1: I have found a solution to the data problems, at least for me here in Wellington CBD for my nexus one.
I have successfully received no stalling data sessions by changing my apn to vodafones direct apn.
Will keep others posted on my progress.
It makes me wonder if this is an overloading of vodafones standard apn?
Although this could be all coincidence.
exportgoldman:
So don't keep us in suspense JohnR and others, is this problem fixed?
From reading this thread, it looks like another Geekzone success story - and a good reason why big companies should let their staff participate in these places.
Any technical tidbits?

Since JohnR hasn't responded I have decided that I will take an irresponsible approach and put forward a theory based on pure wild speculation with no factual basis in the hope of provoking a response (shoot down).
This theory is that Vodafone are rolling out a second UMTS carrier in order to increase the bandwidth that they have available for their customers and to facilitate their new 28 Mbps network and that handovers between the two UMTS carriers weren't working correctly.

Interesting theory. While I don't know whether it is related I do know that in my own (rather extensive) testing prior to posting about this I experienced issues when the phone was staying connected to a single CellID. Running Celltrak on my phone in a stationary location the CellID remained the same and the issue still occured.
This also wouldn't explain the issue occuring to people in areas that aren't having dual carriers deployed.
richms: Twitter being slow affects me with no data on the handset, so I would say is independant of this issue.
