Hey Robert, how important is internet speed to you? Will the Telecom plan even come close? That is one of the key things keeping me with TC.

Hi Clive

Speed is a consideration, but not the be all and end all. I'm interested in getting good service and a product that works, at a good price.

I'll call them all today, including Sky and see what my optionsa are. I may end up dumping the Tbox only and keeping the rest with Telstra Clear. I may stay - I'm ambivalent, but if Telstra Clear can match the deal, or improve their service, I'll stay.

I know this will jinx me, we went from MySki HDi back to T-Box in june in order to save money. Except for the very occasional stutter and brief pause usually between 7pm to 8pm the T-Box has been running flawlessly.

Here is a crazy notion, lets give peace a chance.

We've been real lucky with out unit - which was installed that very weekend since the very first announcement TCL made few years back.

My only gripe is, I wish there's remote recording like MySky and a better or more intelligent recording padding/buffer control without having to reset the serial link for existing scheduling in Planner.

Internet is my backyard...

Switched on the TV this morning and noticed the Record light was up for a program that was started to record 8 hours earlier at 1am. After two reboots the record light goes out but lost the program being recorded.

Later in the afternoon when the TV switched on, all that is showing is '73' which is the channel we had set to record a program at 11am. Reboot and ok but again the program was only partly recorded. Any action in the Planner etc was extremely slow.

I have now just about had enough of the T/Box. I am loosing what little hair I have left.

I presume that I will eventually be told that I need a replacement T/Box, but will it be a 'new' one or a refurbished one. If the latter then I think it would probably be best to put up with the old one and not loose all the recorded programs.?

No wonder people are switching to MySky. It must be an improvement.

(This is the second time I have tried to do this post. I lost the first one somewhere. I am getting very frustrated)

I'm a bit like KiwiNZ and feel this will jinx me, but whilst I have on occasions whined about the T-Box, the last time being in April when, and this is a coincidence following a S/Ware upgrade the hard drive died. I have had two lock ups since then (in four months) have never restarted the modem and apart from the controller batteries not seating properly (becoming displaced following rough handling by children) am currently pretty happy with the T-Box.

I'm on my 3rd T-Box, with a long history of crashes.

Telstra informs me that if you connect a Sony or Panasonic TV to the TBox by HDMI cable, then you will get crashes. I've reverted to AV cable, and cancelled my HD ticket. So far, so good. I also negotiated a partial refund of the HD charges.

I'm going over to Sky. The T-Box is a disgrace.

I have Sony Home Entertainment unit that we connect our T-Box to via HDMI, seems to be fine. We have Sony Bravia rear projection TV but haven't tried with HDMI.

Internet is my backyard...

Well that is a new excuse and sounds like total BS to me. If true, which I doubt, then it confirms that the T/Box is not up to the job. As we have a Sony Bravia TV that comment is real encouraging!!

I'd have to agree - sounds like a lame excuse. My Sony Bravia was fine up until the last update. Since then I've had no end of issues - mainly with the Tbox menus not displaying (makes navigating hard) and the contiued failed recordings. I have an HDMI switch that sits between the TV and the Tbox.

Either the last update stuffed up the HDMI negotiation, or it was never working. If it was never wworking, it shouldn't have been released. If it was working, but got stuffed, Telstra should be able to fix it fairly easily. The fact that they haven't yet, and have been all but silent about the so called forthcoming update speaks volumes.

Gary - a couple of questions I'd like answered before I allow Telecom to switch me over to the dark (fiber?) side:

When is the update coming. Is it days, weeks or months away?

What issues will be resolved in the next update?

What new features will be added to the next update?

I don't believe the TV makes a difference either. We have a Panasonic TV and with all the problems we had with our T-Box never once were we asked what sort of TV it was. If there was a known problem with various TVs surely that would be one of their first questions. When we had the T-Box replaced the technician moved our TV forward a bit as he reckoned the T-Box should be further behind the TV. That made no difference at all. Anyway we are very happy now we have switched to MySky and it's not costing us more.

Oh - and then there is:

The T Box should not have anything under, alongside or on top of the unit

The TBox should not have both AV and HDMI connections at the some time

The TBox should not be in a cabinet as it overheats

........... This is the 21st century - Right????????

Like other requests, I would appreciate a bit of an update on progress. TCL has been noticably quiet of late - does that mean that you have failed in the update? It didn't work so its back to the "drawing board" - I have a few crayons left from the kids - they might work better!

I was connecting to my Sony Bravia via a component cable until at most 6 months ago. I got plenty of freezes. I've had far fewer freezes since I switched to HDMI, but the last update was presumably the main reason for the improvement. Appropriately though - my box was frozen this morning, on the very day it has been replaced with a MySky+.

I've stuck with my TCL phone and broadband as I've been very happy with those services. TCL is not losing much money on me because I upgraded to 100Mbps broadband.

RobertT - as I posted earlier - my response last week from TCL was that they couldn't give a time-frame for the next update. They also said the next update may not fix my issues. For the sake of everyone with a T-Box, I hope it does the trick. I watched one recording last night and it was perfect. The majority of my successful recordings used to be. It'd be interesting to know why they went downhill over the past month or so. Guess I'll never know why.

I couldn't agree more. The last comment I got from a technician was that the T/Box only lasts for a year and needs replacing. I guess that says it all eh?.
