I still think an app alognside the box would solve the issue for everyone; those that have Apple TV/Android TV can install the app and those that don't can use the stb... the app doesn't contain any other apps, just the pure VTV functions while the stb provides a bit of everything... I'd happily pay a decent chunk for the app if it gave me cloud recording with Sky integration etc. and had the default 6 installs as part of the price.

When will VTV standalone have an App of its own so we can stream channels on our phones and tablets?

It is there now that is if by standalone you mean the VTV Gen2 Set Top Box. Go to Apps on your VTV and you will find an app to enable Phones and Tablets in relation to that VTV box.

Good question. Since we have a Freeview recorder here we're trying to watch the news and updates FTA (Mt Kaukau) and using the VTV box these days to catch up or on-demand.

Speaking of Chromecast support - is there any chance this bug can be fixed (@sansom)?

If one of the VTV boxen are on my main network it does this. I’ve moved the boxen to my guest network to prevent it happening.

To replicate - try casting in the YouTube app or in browser on YouTube.

I was wondering what was causing that. Pain in the arse as I always need to scroll to the bottom to find airplay devices.

Agreed @Benoire.  This is on the Vodafone Group roadmap for VTV, but no commitment or timeline yet.

The challenges with implementing this are commercial/legal.  The VTV box gets good rights support from content studios, they've performed a thorough review of the security and DRM that is implemented with this box and given it a big tick.   Vodafone Group will need to re-enter a new round of certification with an app designed to run on 3rd party boxes .  Then there's the commercial challenge of offering subscription services via the Apple app store/Google Play store...

Yes.  We have raised this with Vodafone Group.

Same here, working well on HFC Max in Christchurch. I meant if Vodafone have any interesting stats they can give, otherwise it might not be that different to peak time in evenings?

I got a VTV box last week to replace the MiBox/Android device I'd been using until the TV OnDemand buffering problems started.

VTV has worked perfectly for me so far, but just small niggle with multiple devices on cabled network, viz. a media player to my NAS and the VTV.  The MiBox happily cohabitated with the media streamer, but the VTV knocks it out even when on Standby … only works if I pull the VTV ethernet cable.

Previously I got away with just using a passive ethernet hub, so I suspect that the VTV grabs the network signal even in Standby mode …. hooked up a spare powered switch and they are now playing happily together, albeit the wife is frowning at yet more black boxes turning up in the TV cabinet 😋

Please dont use hubs, there is a very good reason they were replaced with switches.

Hi @Cyril,

I got away with it for over a year, so took a few choice words and thinking before 'data collision' suddenly twigged 😁

Fortunately had an old Edimax switch spare (hangover from early TelstraClear days of insufficient router ports) which did the trick nicely.

I'm looking to get rid of my Sky box which I am only using for TV 1, 2, 3 at the moment (I just cancelled Sky Sports).

The one piece of information I can't find anywhere is the resolution of the streams for these channels through Vodafone TV.

Are 1080p? 720p? Are the all consistent? Different resolutions per channel?

Sky is 1080i for these channels I believe?
