Island Bay, "100/10Mbps" connection, tested via ethernet direct to modem:

Going down ...

6pm:  95/10Mbps
7pm:  50/10Mbps
8pm:  35/10Mbps
9pm:  20/10Mbps

The speed dip is starting earlier and is gradually getting more severe.

Out of interest what is one of the other Speedtest servers showing? (Say another Wellington based one and Vodafone Auckland)

I'm getting around 50-60Mbps to Auckland, Wellington and Sydney sometimes, but not consistently. One minute it will be 50Mbps, the next it will dip into the 20s.

Those tests are one minute apart.

It sounds as like the increase in capacity wasn't enough to accommodate latent utilisation...

Hi everyone

Sorry for the delay replying. I've been in touch with the networks team and have been waiting to hear back, they completed some ongoing optimisation work in the early hours of this morning which should help. Please try it out and let us know how it goes.

Cheers

Dylan

Island Bay, "100/10Mbps" connection, tested via ethernet direct to modem:

The same, only less so ...

          yesterday        today

6pm:  95/10Mbps        95/10
7pm:  50/10Mbps        90/10
8pm:  35/10Mbps        90/10
9pm:  20/10Mbps        37/10

also at 9 pm: VF Auckland 37/10, Spark Auckland 39/10, Spark Wellington 39/10, nPerf Sydney 50/10

A distinct improvement since yesterday, but still significant congestion at 9pm.

Unfortunately I had no opportunity to test last night. I put my head down at 8pm "Just for 30 minutes" and woke up at 7 this morning.

I am not seeing this problem at home in Johnsonville. But just in case... Fibre! Fibre! It's achievable soon.

I think you should get fiber anyway since the problems with cable seem to have been ongoing and may come back.

Island Bay, "100/10Mbps" connection, tested via ethernet direct to modem:

A real roller-coaster ride tonight - speeds and latency have fluctauted wildly, making testing difficult.

For example, three consecutive results at 9pm tonight over a 10-minute period:

The speed dip started at 8pm and persists at 10pm.

EDIT:  Spark Wellington, Spark Auckland, and VF Auckland servers have given similar results.
