In the last week I grabbed my VF Gen2 box out of its garage exile and reconnected it to our TV. It updated and I have to say it is considerably better now to what it was when I exiled it. Kudos to Vodafone and their team working on this service. It seems stable now and performing well.

There was a fire in a transmitting station. Authorities have not said who/why. It may be related - or not. But in other news.

Anyone else have tried to install Vodafone TV app on a phone or tablet? I have tried on my samsung tab s4, scanned the qr code, got the green tick and nothing happened.

Hi Vodafone folks

Will you be adding / would you consider adding TVNZ2+1 to screen the new educational content? https://www.tvnz.co.nz/one-news/new-zealand/beloved-kids-tv-star-suzy-cato-involved-in-new-education-channel-students-learning-home-during-lockdown

Just wondering if there were any plans for Vodafone to add more HD content, for example Nat Geo, BBC Earth and UKTV all HD via SKY direct, by in standard definition via Vodafone TV?

Already spoken about the answer is Yes

Thanks, I’ve searched through the thread and I see mention of these channels all being upgraded to HD in April? (Something about a Harmonic licence)

Any idea if it’s still happening. Must admit it would be nice to capitalise on HD content while in lockdown, don’t generally get to watch much TV.

I am trying to compare this device with the Mi Box S and was wondering if anyone knows the ram / storage and what processor the device has. I understand there is cloud storage etc. Sorry if this has been asked.

Thanks!

Here's a kind of spec sheet https://community.vodafone.co.nz/t5/Vodafone-TV-SKY/Vodafone-TV-Gen-2-Dimensions/td-p/229025?attachment-id=1064

It has a Broadcom 7271 QuadCore SoC.

But basically they don't really reveal the RAM or storage. It doesn't really matter because Vodafone TV is an entirely different device running it's own custom OS (linux based, not Android) and the Vodafone TV interface + select apps (Netflix, TVNZ, NEON, LightBox, ThreeNow, YouTube, Amazon Prime Video, Play Stuff, iHeartRadio), most of which are HTML5 based.

Whatever small amount of storage the device has is not user accessible and is just there for the OS.

The Vodafone TV interface allows you to watch live TV channels, (Freeview or Sky (with subscription)), Catch up on most shows from the past 3 days (Go backwards in the guide and play them) and Record shows/series to Vodafone's cloud.

This is the rather unique feature of Vodafone TV, as kind of a hybrid between what a traditional PVR would do and new internet services.

Hi all, I have been ask about VTV on reddit and was advised to post here. I had a new VTV arrive today (after the one that arrived last week had a hardware fault). I have no subscription yet, just intend to watch the Freeview channels for now but may add Sky Sport if sport starts up again.

The basic functionality seems to work well but I have some questions:

1. Is it possible for the Guide to suppress channels I'm not subscribed to? It's annoying to have TV 1,2,3,Prime and then have to scroll past Sky5 etc. etc. down to the next free channel which is in the 20's.    Or at least allow the list to be sorted in such a way that subscribed channels all come first.   Also, there is no visual indicator of which channels are subscribed and which aren't so it is also annoying in that respect to have to either consult a web-based list of which channels will work, or play whack-a-mole.

2. It doesn't seem to participate in HDMI CEC, would it be possible to add this? Firstly I would like all my devices to have a common volume control.  (My receiver and TV already work together like this). And secondly it would be good for powering off the TV to also power off the VTV .

3. Could we get a Plex app?

4. Could it get Chromecast sinking? Then I have one less device to manage, and this would surely increase VTV sales as it would be competitive with an actual Chromecast.

5. When I have been watching VTV then switch my receiver to watch something via Chromecast instead, or switch off the TV,  the VTV keeps streaming whatever was on (I presume). This is a waste of internet . I have no data cap but it still cuts into the bandwidth cap and also I would like to be responsible and not clog up the pipes for everyone else with unnecessary streaming.  Do I just have to remember to press the Off button on the remote or is there another way? (I'm not sure whether the HDMI tells a device when my receiver switches to taking a different device's input).

Have a look in Settings > Content Settings > Unsubscribed Channels

3. Apps seem to be HTML5-based and released by Vodafone, so no Plex for it yet. Vodafone have mentioned the possibility of an app store in the future.

4. Not yet.

5. That's what I do. When we switch to the Amazon Fire TV or to the Freeview recorder, we turn the VTV off. Being a "responsible netizen" as you mentioned we try to use the Freeview recorder (off terrestrial DVB-T, Mt Kaukau) for live programs instead of streaming. The VTV on the other hand is extremely handy (no pun intended) if we want to watch a program that had already started in another channel or watch an episode from the last three days without having to go searching through On-Demand apps.

OK, it didn't have "Unsubscribed Channels" there, it just has "Sky Channels Yes/No". Which suits my current use case . Thanks

Use a Harmony remote and that is easily programmed.
