Anyone else noticed their 3G broadband connection speed has dropped?  My laptop usually connects via my Motorola V3X at 440kbps but is now reporting 230kbps.

Is this a deliberate move, or just a temporary glitch?  Do you think they'll only charge half as much for half the speed?

I notice that email support to Vodafone returns a message citing "unexpected high volumes of email" mean they can't respond for 7 to 10 days!

Nice one.

440K

The handset is only rated to MAX 384k downlink and should average around 300k

and the handset is NOT 3G broad band its only 3G WCDMA "3GBB is HSDPA"

So the speeds you are getting is normal

It should have an average connection of 300kbps. Factors such as cell shrinkage, load, and if you are near the edge of a cell can alter the speed at which the connection is established

How did you ever get 440kbps when the phone is UMTS so it is only capable of 384kbps? What you are probably seeing is the result of an increase in users on the network.

Sorry I should have been more specific - windows "reports" 440 (or was it 420) - perhaps there's compression between the laptop and the device - either way I'm getting half that now, and I'm in the same location I always used it from.   33 kbytes per second was a typical download speed I used to attain but now I'm lucky to hit 20 kbytes.

Could be user load... but you'd think it would fluctuate each time I connected but today it's always 230.4 kbps.
