Howdy

Just wondering if anyone has a Samsung Galaxy Y on a Vodafone network, looking for a phone for partners son but seems to be the best bet at the moment as he wants it as a phone and for gaming. Just wondering as my partner has a Telecom phone and it works on the Vodafone network but only in 2G mode and it makes the phone quite slow to send/receive data inc Text etc.

2G does not change the speed of SMS but yes data is slower on 2G network

If the handset supports 3G 2100Mhz then check out the Vodafone coverage map as the end user might be in 3G 2100Mhz coverage most of the time anyway

Seen one on 2Degrees, but if he's using it for gaming you may want to up the budget as it looked to have a lower resolution screen (240 x 320 pixels, 3.0 inches (~133 ppi pixel density)) therefore he'd miss out on most of the games out there on Google Play i.e. Draw Something etc

It's quite easy to see where 3G 2100Mhz or 3G 900Mhz coverage is or both

Quite a useful cool the coverage map, it supports the 2100 network range but then so does my partners phone which doesn't like Vodafone 3G maybe it is the APN settings or something.

We were looking at the Galaxy Y for our daughter but we were recommended the LG Optimus P500 and on comparing the two the screen and resolution of the LG was much crisper and better.

So we got her that and she enjoys watching youtube over our home wifi from her phone.

APN settings are only settings and does not impact the mobile coverage a handset will obtain
