OK, hope someone can help me here... I'm a new TC customer. Signed up for the $75 deal and switched over a couple of weeks ago.
I noticed my browsing was really slow for the last few days. So I started regularly doing speedtests yesterday (Sunday) and getting ~0.5Mbps down, then 5 mins later it will be ~1.2Mbps. Still pretty slow. This can be any time of day and earlier in the week I was getting ~7Mbps. Monday morning before work I managed 5-6Mbps. Right now (Mon 9:30pm) I'm getting less than 0.4Mbps. This is using speedtest.net, Telstra's and Consumer's speedtest.
I tried everything to pin-point the problem. Different PC, different router, isolation test. So I logged a fault (TC answered straight away!) and Chorus came out to check the line (again, straight away!). From the street the Chorus guy was getting 7.6mbps down. He suggested it could be internal wiring.
My wiring is a bit of a mess so I tried the first jackpoint in the house. Then I tried wired up my router straight into the wire coming into the house and still ~0.5 down.
The Chorus guy is coming back next week to check the wiring in the house, although I'm worried I'll be charged for that.
My modem stats show:
Downstream Data rate(Kbps): 7616Kb
Upstream: 832Kb
Noise Margin 20 / 13
Output power(dBm) 119 / 158
Attenuation(dB) 9 / 6
So wouldn't that suggest the wiring is fine? If my modem is reading download speed at 7618Kb how is my browsing/speedtest so slow?
I'm not connected to a cabinet. So could this be an issue at the exchange?
Thanks in advance for any help!!
