Bestmate had me won over. I went into a Vodafone store late this afternoon to buy 2 x video calling mobiles, one for me, one for my kids in Gisborne.

As the salesman was going through a few things, i said "and video calling works fine in Gisborne eh?" - he called someone, and later I checked the Voda website, and lo and behold, no video calling in Gisborne at all.

Gisborne has a population of over 40k people, im sure a few of them would like 3G service?

Oh well...

Just to show how a poorly maintened website is bad for any company... But in any case, couldn't anyone at the shop do a demo? How strange...

okay, so i have talked to more people and find out that there are multiple sites online right now.

c'mon voda - update your website (and your staff) - how much business do you lose because you are telling customers that you cant supply service, when in fact you can....

Vodafone's coverage section has always been poorly updated. 3G coverage has been rolled out to new areas over the past few months and hasn't been updated on the site, you'd think they would be promoting this and not trying to hide it.

For anybody who lives on the Kapiti Coast Paraparaumu also has 3G coverage now as well, I believe the Peka Peka Vodafone site is also due to be upgraded shortly as well which will give 3G coverage to Waikanae.

Now if only they could get 3g coverage to work inside as well as it does outside then it may be viable.

I always have 3G coverage inside where ever I use my mobile in Auckland I am posting this now using it

Just cause it may be low in some places does not mean its in all places!!

It's not as bad as some people think.. Yes it does have some penetration issues into valleys (none at home for example) it's still pretty good.

Telecom's evdo is better in finge areas but hey, they have No simcards, or wap inclusion among other things which vodafone have, shame w (myself and 3 others I personally know) have had such appalling customer service from vodafone recently, Hopefully things will improve.......
