Hi there

For at least a week I don't get sms from various google services to my vodafone number (though I get everything well on my wife's 2degrees one).

The last sms I got was at May 10th, and the first confirmed case when I should have received but didn't is May 15th.

Could please anyone confirm if it works or not? (if you don't use 2-step verification you still can start it and check sms, without turning on)

PS: also I've found that voice confirmation from google works fine, but not sms and only on my VF number :-(

Yeah same here, i successfully received one around 2 weeks ago, but not this week. Again, voice works fine. Ive been using 2-step for around a year now, and have found that the sms code system comes and goes.

Both Vodafone and Telecom decided some time ago to block some incoming international SMS services to prevent spam - with the unintended consequence of actually blocking useful services... Obviously they never admit it's just as easy for a local spammer to get a handful of prepay SIM at the supermarket and start using those to send SMS anyway, changing SIM as they are blocked.

It all depends on which route Google uses to send the message at the time. Complaining to the telcos will do nothing as they will just adopt the nanny attitude with "we know better than you so we manage it" and nothing changes really.

I also think this was done because some people in New Zealand were using cheaper international gateways to implement SMS notification services, and I suspect at some point telcos' partners complained people weren't using their overpriced services. Obviously this is my opinion and no one will ever confirm it - unless we get a whistleblower.

Seriously, the local telcos are causing problems to customer with this filtering policy.

Yes Vodafone block SMS Gateways that send SMS spam to Vodafone customers but this is very carefully checked so we don't block valid SMS,

John

Just tested and I get both 2-step and calendar reminders fine to my VF number, from a +44 and +41 number respectively.

That's weird :-( Any ideas who to ask about this then? Vodafone negates that it is their issue (it's expected behaviour), and google doesn't provide a robust way to even ask them about the issue.

Is your number a VFs originally or did you move it from another provider?

Ahh my bad - didnt see that this was in the VF forum. I have a telecom number ported to 2d, so there's potentially another realm of factors at play there.

Looks like the provider that routes the SMS alerts for Google has stopped or having issues doing MNP look ups

zerkms mobile number is a 022xxxxxx number on Vodafone

Yep, looks like it. I have worked around it by using the google android app "authenticator"  that generates codes automatically though

The messages I've ever received started with +41 and +44 (only two numbers in total)

I just use Google's Authenticator app rather than relying on text messages, much easier.
