Below is a trace to a site where my raiding guild uses and for the life of me I connect correctly...as it always times out etcetc

If any experts could give me some advice as to what steps I need to do to correct this issue.

thanks in advance. Under it is a trace to geekzone as a comparison

That's got nothing to do with TCL cable speeds at all.

The server on the end of aegis.sneakies.com.au is not online.

I'm not seeing a route to aegis.sneakies.com.au has address 74.220.215.212

7. tg1-1.ar01.prov.acedc.net 0.0% 5 173.1 185.6 170.2 200.0 13.

Fails at hop 7 for me. Given the latency, I'd guess that's in the US somewhere.

You could use www.domainwhitepages.com to get some more details on the address and make contact with the end point of find out what's happened

oh look at that... it's just blocking icmp traffic for traceroute?

It's coming up for me on tcl cable in chch, but you're right, it's slow as.

It's not fast via my service in wellington either, but much faster than here in chch.

na.  Gary will see the thread in the morning and raise a ticket if he thinks it's worth it.

I'd just keep monitoring the site.  If it keeps being an issue and it's important to you then I'd just look about for a VDSL service, SNAP are running a hot price at present.

ppl moan about international issues that are normally related to he TCL proxy farm all the time.

We got 100mbit...  we got bigger caps.... we got $75 for phone and data...  we just don't seem to be able to get rid of that proxy farm!

Don, that advice about Gary reading this in the morning and raising a ticket is CRAP!

People have better things to do than troll the boards looking for trouble to log tickets about.
If you want a problem solved and if it can be solved without impacting the wider community then raise a fault ticket and it should get looked at.
This passive-aggressive crap needs to stop.  He helps those that ask or try to help themselves.

Matt, what is happening is your server LOOKS like it is in Oz but it's hosted out of the US.
So while the domain is  a .AU, it's being served via a hosting company on the West Coast of the US, possibly in Portland, OR.

you're using Windows I see, so that might be doing something 'interesting' like actually trying to get to a host header that 74.220.215.212 is advertising as aegis.sneakies.com.au.

If I do a traceroute to aegis.sneakies.com.au, I get the following

traceroute to aegis.sneakies.com.au (74.220.215.212), 64 hops max, 40 byte packets
 1  vektor_rtr (192.168.0.1)  0.883 ms  0.240 ms  0.192 ms

so, it is reachable or at least the server hosting the webpage

is.

"na". You should call TelstraClear and raise a ticket yourself.

Geekzone is where you come to share what's happening, give and get some advice.

IT'S NOT AN OFFICIAL SUPPORT CHANNEL. Whatever help you get here from a telco/ISP is a bonus but it's not a right.

If you have something wrong you should contact their help desk.

I don't like the proxy, and people reporting here about how it borks every second day is good to raise concerns. But it's still not the official support line.

And yes, fix that now, TelstraClear and Brocade.

That site is dog slow from a number of different connections that I've tested. That would suggest a hosting issue rather than an ISP issue.

DoomlordVekk: This passive-aggressive crap needs to stop.

Ok, let me be a little more aggressive about it...

Telstra needs to get its support systems to a point where I have confidence in just telling the user to email the HD team and know they will get a GOOD response in a REASONABLE time.  I don't have this confidence.

I want to see the sort of response that FAIR GO reported about Tim on the FAIR GO Facebook page last week.

When I call up on the phone I should be able to speak to someone who clearly understands a New Zealand accent.

Frankly I regard that the foreign help desk is being used to passively-aggressively  deflect customers from seeking help because they know they simply won't be able to explain their problem.

In this instance my appologies. I did not make my point very clear at all.  What I should have said is that from experience I find the Telstra email system to be nothing more than a vacuum which is a total waste of time to pure anything into.

While Geekzone and Facebook are not official support vehicles they are consistently the best way to get things done when you don't have direct contact with good people to get stuff done.

I have to say that I emailed Gary directly to get something done yesterday and the response was outstanding!  However that is a less than ideal vehicle to get good service.

As MF points out, what would be far more ideal is to simply get the proxy farm either working or removed so that we can have confidence in the network that doesn't bring us to the point of just feeling we want to vent on public forums!
