Finally made it to wellington (well, petone) and now wading through the whole telecoms lark.

Telstra have made me this offer:

$85 for phone, 10G bb and Freeview T-Box
$95 for phone, 20G bb and Freeview T-Box

Similar price to Telecom, Vodafone et al and saves me hitting Trademe for a sketchy PVR.
Have scouted round the other providers and this *seems* a good deal.

Whaddyathink?

If you don't want a sketchy PVR then I recommend getting a TiVo. Unless you want some of the channels in the TCL lineup...

Was really interested in TiVO, but can't seem to see any anywhere. Telecom shop denied all knowledge (despite there being one sitting there :/).

Had a bit of a buyer beware moment regarding buying them off of trademe as they've had a reasonable failure rate, eh?

Surely the T-Box is better than the other options. Using the sky version at the place I'm staying, seems solid enough (albeit a bit slow)

Bond and Bond or Noel's for the TVIO.

I just got one and they're impressive kit. I'm getting the home networking kit for it next. Don't think you can do any of that sort of stuff with the T-Box as far as I know.

I suspect the TCL guys have great plans, but those have just been put on hold while they just make it stable... which as MF points out, they clearly haven't quite got there yet.

The benefit of the TiVo from my POV is I can move the content off it to cheap storage.

Oh and PS, if you're in a TCL cable area, spend your gold on the 100/10 service. Don't mess about with the slow 15/2. I know it's a cup of coffee more a week, but it's worth it just for the upload ability to send your video to youtube and photos to facebook.

The T-Box is sketchy. I have one sitting unplugged under my TV.
