Here at home we have TCL providing our landline. I find myself continuosly annoyed at the fact that when your in a call and the other party disconnects that there is NO tone indicated they have done so. It actually sounds like someone is still there only not talking.
Does anyone else have this issue?

So let me get this straight....

You are talking, and people just hang up on you without saying anything?

Does this happen to you often?

Your issue may very well lie outside of TCLs control James...

People don't hang up on me :-)

But what I do like about TCL phone service (courtesy I think of the Nortel switches they use) is that if you don't hang up the phone properly, a loud repeating tone emits from the headset to remind you. I don't recall the Telecom phones doing that

Slightly off topic, given the versatility of the Nortel DMS100 boxes, I wish TCL offer a service to block incoming calls which have no caller ID (or to ask the caller to provide a number). It would go a long way to blocking off those pesty sales people who often call with caller ID blocked lines. I would pay for that service (I already pay for callerID)

True... I think the loud tone comes after two or three minutes. I forgot about that.

Yes I've experienced this tone Tongue out
But I still want one to say when a call has ENDED! Or is this just a conspiracy to keep our phones off hook so we make less calls and they can just make money off line rental? ..

I also am a little concerned that you have people hanging up on you without saying something like.. "ok see ya".

One thing  I wish they would do is provide a signal to say that you have a message waiting. It is possible my phone supports it but Telstra do not. I don't know if Telecom do.

These tones we do get here:

  • Message tone
  • The dial-a-number-now tone
  • Phone off hook tone (described above)

We just don't get a hang up tone Cry

The Nortel gear doesnt have a regular Telecom disconnect tone, merely silence with the loud tone after a while so you know your phone is off the hook.

It also took TCL years to work out how to do Clear Forward/Answer Reversal on their switch. Because most PSTN hardware will detect the TCNZ disconnect tone as a disconnect the line would be hung up by most PBX's or answerphones. Because TCL didn't have this the phone couldn't detect the disconnect. If you're a TCL business customer you can now get this provisioned on your line, if you're a residential customer you're just out of luck..:-)

The Nortel switches TCL have are awesome, it's just a shame they use about 1% of the functionality they have!

Does anyone though? I know that if you lose signal on your cell it does not tell you (which can be very annoying if you carry on talking).

What about yours? I thought that was the whole point of this thread?

Actually I do find that to be a pain. Mobile calls ends either because of a hang up or loss of reception but theres nothing to alert you the call has ended.

Reinforcing my point above. The DMS100 are very capable switches so putting in blocking calls with no callerID should be easy. We should find a way to make our voice heard. From distant memory the primary switches used in the US were either AT&T 5AESS or Nortel DMS100's - both equally capable switches. Where as Telecom NZ used some pretty old gear ( can't remember now but used to know folks who worked on their development that had to bludgeoned to provide advanced services!)
