The vodafone mobile broadband software that controls the vodem sticks has to be the worst around. On a regular basis (ie atleast once a week) someone brings in there pc with a vodem problem.
The most current one seems to be that the software has corrupted and is beyond repair. Upon launching it you are greeted with "MobileBroadband has encounted a problem". Uninstalling it, removing any instances of the usb device in the registry and reinstalling the latest version of the software doesn't help. I've had to reload a few machines lately because i can't for the life of me get it going again.. Has anyone successfully resurrected it?

Edit: Plugging said usb stick into another machine works.. Also once the problem machine is reloaded the mobile broadband software is happy again.

Some of my customers would say otherwise.. I haven't seen a noticeable pattern, it seems somewhat random. For instance the last one was a 1 year old windows 7 install, and the one that landed on my desk today would be a ~3 year old windows xp install. Im sure there are thousands of people that have them working fine but I hear from the people that have it stop working, and it seems to be the same problem over and over again. So i was hoping that someone out there may have figured out what causes it and/or how to resolve it without reloading the machine.

All PCs from same brand or different brands? Perhaps the same USB chipset?

Updated system files it cannot deal with, or some other software updating the dependencies.

A process explorer and dll dependency checker to find out what versions are loaded and find out what has recently changed would be a good start on the problem.

In any moment of decision, the best thing you can do is the right thing, the next best thing is the wrong thing, and the worst thing you can do is nothing.
