We have brought an iPad for our local seniors computing group so that they can try one out at home. While most have broadband the iPad is 3G so that can use that instead.OK my experience with 3G and the iPad is a big zero. Won't be using a lot of data - what is the best way to handle this - obviously don't want to go on a plan. Thanks.

Why work on Wednesday and stuff up 2 good long weekends

Telecom used to have a prepaid plan where you just paid for the amount of data you used, and it worked out at about 10c per MB. But I don't think they have that plan anymore. Apart from teh regualr prepay plans, I think most now require yu to pay a monthly fee of around $30. 2 degrees may have a cheaper one. But I have found telecoms network works best with the ipad in more areas.

Are you talking about 10, 50 or 1-200MB / month ?

on Prepay Telecom have a $1 per day for 10MB, while 2Deg have $6 for 50MB a month $10/100MB for National data, or if you are in a Major city the $20/1 GB is probably the best option

@Stuffed What do you consider a small amount of data?

@Matt Vodafone NZ has many dual carrier sites across NZ not just Auckland CBD some quite rural but the latest ipad3 is required

You are mixing casual rates with data bundle rates

Vodafone offers the casual rate of $1 per day for 10MB and also $6 for 50MB the casual rate on 2Degrees is 50 cents MB

@Stuffed If usage is that low just go with the casual rate

How much data? Really have no idea - just enough for them to send and receive a few emails a day, do some browsing and read a couple of papers I guess.Can you not get a card with say x amount of data and when that's finished buy some more?!

I wouldn't recommend casual data $1 for 10MB for an ipad, once they start playing with it, downloading apps, watching you tube etc they will rack up a large bill - its addictive. Best to start them off on 500MB.
