Thanks to v.box (finally a good idea from vodafone after the stupidity of replacing weekends with bestmates but for prepay only) I finally got a 3G phone last night, a V3X.

All was good, let it charge fully before using it. Fished out a miniusb cable that I had in my box-o-cables. And it wont connect. Doesnt show up as a new device in windows, can't be detected by the moto update utility.

Any ideas?

I am going to take it back this morning as its a returned phone (I found two photos on it that are those promo shots they put on for backgrounds, but photos that someone has taken with the phone).

Cheers :)

Ignore that, looks like it wasn't receiving enough juice from the unpowered usb hub. It connects when plugged straight into the PC. I'll just have to go buy a powered USB hub then.

Still a little dismayed that I'm not the phones first owner though, and that the previous owner returned it pretty quickly as the plastic protectors were still on the phone.

Hey. Whats your thoughts on this phone?
I'm looking to buy it as well through Vbox.

Does it come with bluetooth headphones and an extra memory card?

Hi there. Have just got a V3x also but having fun connecting with XP via bluetooth. Can send images/mp3's etc from the PC fine but can't do the other way around. Did you have to install any drivers?? Phone (from VF NZ) didn't come with any software and the manual is very brief! Have also tried using mini USB but just searches for driver. Am i missing something? Thanks in advance

I haven't tried bluetooth with the phone but I use a USB cable to transfer files to and from it. For most files I use Motorola Phone Tools which, and I thought this was terrible, Motorola charge for. Luckily I knew where to find a copy (I can't say where though sorry). For Java games I use Motorola Midlets Manager from http://www.e398mod.com/. You may also find other programs on there that will be able to transfer pictures and MP3s to the phone, but be warned that some of the programs on there may make changes to the phone that could kill it. The V3X has a GeForce 4800 chip inside that Motorola have disabled the 3d capabilities of. They have enabled these on the V3XX but charge much more for it. Someone may work out, from looking at the software on the new phone, how to enable the chip on the old phone. Doing this, and stuffing it up so the phone stops working, is something you should avoid.

I actually put my phone up on trademe last night. While its quite a nice phone it just has features that I don't use while missing features that I would

I've been quite happy with this phone.  I was impressed when the thing survived a drop onto concrete.
The v3x hacking community is pretty big, so I'm pretty sure the nvidia chip will be cracked one of these days.

Hi and thanks for your replies.... I have since had some time to have a play with the V3X and got Motorola Phone Tools - I too am amazed that Motorola CHARGES for software to provide features that are expected from modern capable mobile phones!!!! That said, the programme is excellent. A little slow over bluetooth - yet to try it with the USB cable, but i'm guessing that is much faster. Bluetooth was very easy to set up for the V3x in comparison to other phones i've had in the past. The Phone Tools software offers a huge range of features from reading your texts while your phone remains in your pocket, to easily transferring photos/music to and from the phone, to dialing calls from your computer screen! Impressive. (Though still shouldn't be charged for in my mind!)  The programme is great for loading your contacts to your phone/SIM - a lot faster than tapping away at the phone. Overall very happy with the phone and features - for my needs anyway! Managed to get $150 off for being a "valued customer" too - so thats always good! Cheers guys.
