These are the best numbers I've got on my TelstraClear connection (cable) in the last few months. And the micro outages seem to be gone:

Nice to see.

I must say I am very happy with the consistency of connection since being on TCL.

I'm on the max/max ADSL and here are my results:

I am far more impressed with my telstra connection that i was with xtra

It is New Zealand's role to send out its bright young men and women to help run the rest of the world. And they go, not hating the country of their birth, but loving it. From this loving base they make their mark on the world.

7.4Mbps down and 2.1Mbps up, those are seriously kick-a*s speeds!

47ms latency is not to be sneezed at either, and good to see that the micro-outages have gone.

I suppose that ADSL2+ (when/if it ever comes) will eclipse your download speed for those closest to the exchange, but 2.1Mbps upstream is fair pumping and it will take some beating.

Goodonya TCL Cool.

I wouldn't be surprised if you hear of a 25 Mbps service from TelstraClear (on cable, not DSL) before Telecom New Zealand comes out with their ADSL2+ service...

Waiting... Too many rumours around.

I've got to agree with you. Since I moved house 2 weeks ago I haven't had a single outage or micro outage, speeds have been awesome and my VoIP connection is absolutely rock solid. Even calls to Australia using u.law are perfect, I haven't noticed a even a single occurance of jitter or breakup in the 2 or so hours I've spent on the phone in that time!

Way to go TCL, whatever you have done has certainly made a difference!

BTW for anybody moving house and keeping TCL make sure you ask for your $100 Noel Leeming voucher when you arrange the move. This has been mentioned on here before but it's worth mentioning again as I got my voucher in the mail yesterday.

Don't get me there with this story. We made a point of only buying a house in an area with TelstraClear cable-modem coverage, called TCL many times to check the houses we were looking into and only settled for one with service.

I only found out about this $100 voucher a month after we moved houses. At no moment the CSR who booked the transfer, or the person who confirmed the transfer, or the installer - never - no one mentioned it.

They just got away with it.

When I mentioned it to the CSR she wasn't actually aware of the promo. She put me on hold while she spoke to somebody else about it and then found a template for it on their system to fill out. She seemed surprised herself that the promo existed and that the CSR's weren't all aware of it. The letter I got was even personally signed which was a nice gesture.

Maybe a few of the TCL lurkers on here might want to address the issue - it's obviously a good selling point.

It's definately a good deal when it only costs $49 for a reconnection to get a $100 voucher.. But having said that TCL have had probably close to $10000 off me over the years since I got a cable modem connection in 1998!

I was really lucky with the voucher. We received a flyer about it one a month before we were due to move. The flyer says that you have to mention it when you're booking the move (the implication being that they won't offer it to you) to get the voucher. When I called in to book the move I hadn't gotten around to mentioning the voucher, but the nice CSR said that because I was booking well in advance that she'd put me down for it. So some CSRs know about it. It took about a month and a couple of phone calls after the move to actually get the voucher, though.

Oh, and back on topic - my connection has been pretty solid the past week or so and great speeds - 3.9Mbps down and about 1.3Mbps up to Auckland on the 4/2 cable plan.

This raises an interesting point. Real estate agents talk about location location location. So most of us when buying a house look for a nice area, good schools etc.  Of course the readers on this NG now add to the list, must be able to access TCL cable services!  Certainly when I bought a house a few years ago and was looking at a house in a cul de sac, I got absolute confirmation from TCL that they could service me before I put in an offer :-)

Staying in Wellington. Check out my AirBnB in the Wellington CBD.  https://www.airbnb.co.nz/h/wellycbd  PM me and mention GZ to get a 15% discount and no AirBnB charges.

Heya,

Can anyone give me some test results for a london trunk server?  I'd be interested to know what long distance stuff is like with cable given the number of issues i've been reading with ADSL packages.

Thanks in advance.
