Just checking if there is anyone in the know on any potential impeding changes to the current whole install-by-chorus net provided-by-WcX in the upcoming months.

Like.. maybe a handshake agreement with Xtra to be able to supply their services over it rather than me have to go and start consolidating my provider email and adjusting forum accounts and the likes? :D (had it since 128k jetstart days!)

Yeah, OK so I can hear the laughing already. But can't blame a guy for trying right! :)

We're due to move out to sovereign palms in the near future once the house build gets under way. And well aware we are  likely going to need to jump on the WxC fibre bandwagon. Infact we have to sign some sort of install/usage agreement by end of Sept.

I'm hopeful of some advancements on the horizon in plans or providing services now that we are some months into it after launch?

I think there was talk before the end of the year for the subdivisions being switched to UFB but doubt it will happen in that time frame. Even then you won't be able to get Telecom as they won't be launching their UFB products till later next year. Lol change your email NOW!

Nobody can know it better than ChorusVan. We can only pray that he will be very kind and will be able to give us some comments about progress for BOF-UFB conversion.

BOF areas are untimately being converted to UFB - there are a number of recent threads on here discussing this.

WxC is the only ISP offering service and with the change freeze implimented by Chorus no changes will be made until these areas are incorporated into the UFB project.

Answer on my question from Ministry of Economic Development:

"The arrival of the Government’s Ultra-fast Broadband (UFB) rollout is now providing retail service providers with the stimulus to build products over fibre, however UFB products are being delivered via different fibre technology to the BoF, which requires different equipment within the exchange and in the customer’s premises. Chorus have advised that they have a programme of work to upgrade their BoF services to bring them in line with UFB technology.

Your address is within the UFB zone, but will not receive UFB services until Chorus have upgraded their BoF equipment. These upgrades will start mid-2012 (Chorus may be able to provide further information on when your subdivision may be upgraded). Once your subdivision’s upgrade is complete, retail service providers who may have carried out product development for UFB will be able to offer UFBbased fibre services to residents in those subdivisions if they choose to take them up. "

Mid 2012 already passed, so probably Chorus has updated information.

I've been keeping my eye on the other threads but they all tend to go stagnent with 'Man that sucks, the pricing is fixed, no choice...' etc etc. Which of course is ultimately true. Was just hoping there was possibly more info directly about the FSD side than the conversion of it to UFB which won't be for a while

I can see a tonne of retirees (sadly the new is subdivision is largely redzone retirement central) that won't be getting or very reluctant to get any internet out there other than via mobile/cell once the new cell site goes up too, not once many realise the difference between the pittance they pay for copper services at present in town.

Will have to chat to the chorus lads when I'm next out checking on the section. Find out who I need to do bad things to to get on any sort of potential retail trial out there if one exists :) They are finishing building around 2 houses a day at present, its pretty full on building with over 1100 new residences going in so demand should start spiking soon.
