is anyone else receiving intermittent but frequent calls during the night from Indian ISD codes? (+91 xxx)

i could accept that it was simply a wrong number if they occasionally came form other ISD codes, but its always +91 and almost always in the middle of the night!

Xnet have assured me my number was fresh and didn't belong to anyone before me. Occasionally the callers have left a message but its always in Indian and I have no clue what they're saying.

Upload the message somewhere and someone could probably translate it for you....

there are multiple different numbers and WxC say they are unable to block and entire dialling code - which is what I would be happy for them to do as I don't know anyone in India :)

xpd: Upload the message somewhere and someone could probably translate it for you....

haven't kept any recordings, they were on my asterisk box - and they often just hung up without leaving a message any way.

uh huh! its the one thing that's holding me back from dumping my telecom line altogether... couldn't go pure VFX in the house with odd calls like this at all hours of the night....

...well that and finding an inexpensive way of moving my alarm monitoring signal to VoIP. (i tried a linksys ata which would dial but the alarm company never received the codes)

have pm'd back the findings and conversation. both were wrong numbers from a family (i suspect same) where one elderly women has no clue what a voicemail system is and the uncle left a voicemail for his nephew just saying 'hi nephew, it's your uncle' and then hung up. nothing suspicious. just wrong numbers.

thanks for that :D I suspected that they were innocent callers, I just cant get my head around why is it always to my number, why does it appear that I'm the only one receiving the calls and why are they always from Indian dialling codes. Its always a different number so it's not like someone has given a relative my number by mistake, unless its been given to a whole village and they're all trying to call but then it would come from the same local dialling code not different ones as has been happening

usually there is only a missed call, no message. the freepbx blacklist I was using with the asterisk box had several pages of unique blocked numbers all from +91 xxxxxxxx

Only option i can see would be:

Advanced feature pack and block the numbers individually.

there isnt a residential service we have that can block an entire range unfortunately

That's really ambulance at the bottom of the cliff kind of stuff.... Are you saying that this is completely normal and expected and that to deal with it I'm expected to upgrade my service? Its not just one caller calling, it is a unique number every time - this screams to me of a network problem and cant simply be human error given the frequent and varied occurrences.

If it was someone ringing on my Telecom line at all hours of the day and night I'm sure they'd be able to deal with it.

It really is most likely a wrong number that someone's give to their relatives. Either they'll give up, or see if VFX can just give you a new number. Not much else to be done, I'm afraid.

I doubt Telecom would be any different in their capabilities for selective caller rejection, ie to block a whole country...
