next year vodafone 3g customers will get live skytv on their mobile phones:

http://www.nbr.co.nz/home/column_article.asp?id=17001&cid=3&cname=Technology

good on you vodafone. awesome price too.i wish they provided live cnn, bbc, fox news,tv1,2,3,c4,prime and all channels. i do not understant why they will only show some channels live and other not.

so how many mobile telvision users will be able to watch tv using one cellphone tower?

the only thing that disappoints me is that the highest rating daily music show in in the country, vodafone select live 4-7pm weekdays is not even going to be shown. vodafone sponsors this show. vodafone select live gets about 10,000+ text messages a day and all of the youth watch it. yet vodafone is going to screen 'mtv new zealand' which is a competitor to c4 and a competitor to the vodafone sponsored 'vodafone select live'. i wish vodafone screened the 'c4' because it has vodafone select live. come on vodafone. keep screening all the channels you are going to,but please please screen 'c4' because it there will be 1000's of people new zealand wide watching it.

$2.50 for 8 channels, thats a great package...

Although the lineup so far is a bit lame, just like the basic package you have to start with with Sky...
Dissapointing to see the live sport will be pay-per-view....

I imagine the reason why they are showing some channels and not others right now as they have yet to negotiate with other providers the rights and satisfactory prices etc...

Great stuff a start to get what Vodafone Australia have at present mind you they are up against telstra in Oz.

Mobile TV line up on Australia Vodafone live! with 3G

· 6 live channels: Sky News Business, Sky News UK, BBC World, Fashion TV, ABC and SBS.

· 15 made for mobile channels: including a range of Sky News channels, MTV, E!, Rage, VidZone TV, ABC Kids

and Chilli TV.

· Exclusive content: available only on Vodafone live!, such as Team TV (with behind the scenes access to top Australian sporting talent) and Vodafone Live at The Chapel, featuring live and exclusive performances from local and international music acts.

It should get better and once we get more gruntier HSDPDA mobiles and I dont think DVB-H is on the roadmap. As a lot of content is presaved vid clips.

I'm not sure how to interpret this:

Dubbed 'Sky Mobile TV', the service will be available to owners of 3G handsets and will cost $2.50 for access to eight channels.

I assume it's supposed to mean $2.50 per week? It's good to see that Vodafone are beginning to accept that cost has historically been the main barrier to their multimedia services becoming mainstream.
