Looking at moving to Christchurch and have found some of the new subdivisions have fibre connections.

Seems that a many refer to world exchange (Xnet) as the only provider.
Looked on the Xnet web site in the fibre section. Under when fibre is coming> Christchurch it links to enable.net but their coverage does not match where these fibre connected subdivisions are. And xnet are not listed as a service provider.

Also under “Get fibre faster with Xnet nz- Faster than any other “it links to Xnet’s very slow and expensive fibre plans.

I won’t be wanting a fibre connection at the speeds and cost of the Xnet plan(30/10 with 15 GB at $99) .

Will UFB(and UFB pricing) be available at places with Xnet fibre?

There are abougt 3 or 4 threads over the past few months in this forum discussing why this is the case, to save everybody repeating things again your best option be to read through them.

Things will be changing where BOF is in current subdivisions we are the only option, UFB will be available in these subdivisions when they roll UFB network past the areas, I can't tell you when...

There will be changes coming to plans in the near future when there is some clear direction on the "real costs" with UFB, we can't commit to this until the real cost are actually known, we don't have government money to throw around on a punt :)

You link to enable.net yet you don't provide a service through them and they can't access your fibre?

That's in the UFB section of the site. You're in a BOF area (which will become UFB in the future, but not yet).

I don't believe so. If you don't like the BOF plans you could look at fixed wireless.

Generally no, your mostly talking about newish/experimental subdivisions which built with fiber only, and no copper throughout the entire development.

That plan includes national calling. The base plan is $70 including the 1st 5GB, then 99c per GB after; so 15G = ~$80.

Same with me going to Soverign palms. Chorus are out there splicing daily as the garages are finished and ETPs installed on the side of them

3 or so a day at present. And no sign of UFB in the near future.. my current neighbours (moving there too) and their 5Gb ADSL and using ISP email are in for a shock.

I wonder what happens to those on oldschool devices like St Johns monitoring etc when the power goes out.. no 48v on the line to keep things working COUquakesGH. Was one good thing when stuff went wrong, our old fax and stashed pert phone were handy. When all the neighbours were all 'the phones are out' not realising they had a cordless powered one and power was out...

Argh Sovereign Palms Kaiapoi ... my home town btw pretty much born and Breed there with my family still there, its one of the fasted growing subdivisions we have as well.

Actually during the earth quake the BOF subdivisions had less issues and all pretty much stayed online , there were a couple of power hits but Fibre handled the quakes it seemed really well whereas we did some copper problems.

Fyi St Johns has a certified Alarm now for IP with AlarmNZ
