HI

I got a brand new Sony ericson v800 and thought I would go onto vodafone live and download some stuff. I checked my balance and I had no creidt so I rang vodafone and to see they told me that I had gone outside of the vodafone live website and I owe then $68 dollars.

My question for everyone is have you been charged the 10c per 10Kb for downloading stuff off vodafone live, as vodafone has so far been no help.

Kindest Regards
Jeremy M. Smith

Welcome to Geekzone... The question is have you gone outside the Vodafone live! portal?

Also, is this a Vodafone handset, or an imported one?

Vodafone live! costs are listed on this page and casual data rates are here.

Yes, I have been charged, but it was a long time ago and only a small amount so I didn't pursue it any further.

Because of the punitive data charges on the casual plan I never use Vodafone Live for fear of something like this happening again.  If I need to use some mobile data I switch my phone over to the 1GB/$49 plan but it is a hassle having to move back to the casual data plan afterwards.

In my view it's just too easy to run up huge bills accessing web content through your mobile phone without being aware of it.  There needs to be some data counter which is always a keystroke away allowing you to keep tabs on what you are using.  For some reason the GPRS data counters on my Panasonic X700 don't work at all and have remained stuck on a few hundred kB since a few days after I bought the phone.  The only way I can track my usage is through Vodafone's web site, which (while I'm on the road) I have to pay to access through my mobile!

The whole mobile data experience is far from satisfactory and I am super-careful with my usage while on the casual plan.  You have my sympathies Killergeek and I hope Vodafone will resolve this to your satisfaction.
