home phone and 500gb data $119 per month! for Auckland, Wellington and Christchurch. All other area's add an extra $10.

Lets hope vodafone have a reaction to this.

I had to switch from Orcon as I was getting billed over $200 to $250 a month with our company usage on Internet Alone (computer repairs and software development).

$120 dollar plan for 120gb was a way better deal and got a Home Phone included. Yay.

the 120GB with homephone was the old plan, called 'Total Home Broadband' You are right the new plans are much better though. More data, better mobile rates, but slightly worse landline rates.

Hell I pay enough to Vodafone for mobiles as we are on the road a lot so we barely use our landline. More of a formality for business because somehow customers keep getting our landline number! LOL.

I must look into these new plans. 500gb sounds extreme. Not sure how on earth I would manage to use this volume of data - as long as it doesn't come with 'hooks' like a slower up or down rate.

No hooks, full speed as always with Telecom.

Im always surprised how much data we go thru, household with several mac computers, Ipads, iPhones etc. All of the associated updates are usually a GB or two each, then add in HD 1080p Youtube videos, Online TV streaming etc.

Without trying too hard, we are regularly pushing 250GB per month, the 500GB plan gives us peace of mind that we will never reach our cap and reduce to dial up speed.

Heck that is some serious usage. I find YouTube if you use it alot can chew through it quickly. Although we don't use entertainment type sites like that.

I cant wait for NetFlix in New Zealand - or is it called something else here. Anywho - Fibre should drive a whole new generation of HD Streaming Technologies in NZ.

we have www.Quickflix.co.nz here which is basically the same thing as Netflix but they only launched a year ago so don't havce as much content. (a mixture of movies, kids stuff, and british shows at the moment)
Still, they have been adding stuff steadily over the last few months so it's getting better every week.

On the plus side they have movies to rent which have only just come out on DVD for a price per movie (unlike Netflix which has to wait years before you can watch them) which is pretty good.

I use it quite a bit and, along with a fair bit of torrenting, get through between 100-150GB per month. Once my kids get older no doubt that will skyrocket though!

This new skynet law can be tricky. I've had customers where a teenager uses Torrents in the house - but its the account holder who gets nailed.

Should I say I don't advocate copyright infringement - but I do support Privacy on the Web! - of which Torrents offer no privacy without some sort of intermediate Proxy or VPN.

not a single person has ben busted for downloading movies or TV shows yet.
In fact only the music studios are actually sending notices according to recent articles.

Thank god the government made it expensive for the studios to pursue things.

Just dont jump on the latest blockbusters or the latest hot songs and you should be all good.

But still - as a privacy note - torrents give your IP address out to hundreds (sometimes thousands) of different peers.

Who is indexing your IP address for future use? or Future Law changes? who knows.

Was almost going to sign up the other day but on my Vodafone connection the Telecom site wont load :-( LOL

Works find using works internet and mobile broadband. Have restarted the router, leaving it off for awhile each time still same result.

Ah well I can always use an anonymous proxy service ;-)

As per the norm though I'll hold off hoping the plans will change on Vodafone but us Naked DSL guys/gals always get left out.

Trouble is I do enjoy Vodafone and it's a good service so torn between a better deal or the Vodafone expereince.

Vodafone are constantly reviewing their plans and adjusting existing data caps to ensure our customers get great value. Rest assured that when a competitor looks to be cheaper with a new offering, Vodafone always has something up their sleeve to outmatch their deals.

Good to hear that Demeter, I'll keep watching the site and see what comes up. Don't really want to loose my naked dsl setup at this point :-)
