Hi All,

As explained previously we are looking to support Asterisk users in our network and are now working towards this, what I would like to do is to gather some information from Asterisk user's please,

What I would like to know is
1. What versions and revisions of asterisk are currently being used by users ?
2. What do you use Asterisk for, Commercial or Residential purposes ?
3. Your History with Asterisk, Skill Level , ( I like to play a bit, I am a Asterisk Guru etc)
4. Would you be prepared to be involved with any Trials (Conditions willy apply to this, ie no passing of any info we supply you etc)

We are looking at a number of options to best support Asterisk so any info you feel like passing on will be of use.

Trixbox 2.0

Residential.

Intermediate/Slightly advanced user (but not an 'expert')
4. Would you be prepared to be involved with any Trials (Conditions willy apply to this, ie no passing of any info we supply you

Primarily interested in uptime and call quality.

Asterisk 1.2.0 on Debian 2.4.XX

I installed it, spent days/weeks configuring it and now I probably know nothing because I just have not had to touch it (oh, I hope that is not the "kiss of death") since.

1.2x and 1.4 have also played extensively with TrixBox

Residential. Have a few friend interested in commercial use that are keen on a system in the coming months.

Medium. I certainly know my way around after having played with it for 18 months but don't consider myself a guru! :-)

in repsonse to your questions:
1. What versions and revisions of asterisk are currently being used by users ?
All currently installed sites are 1.2 based - "straight" asterisk on CentOS

2. What do you use Asterisk for, Commercial or Residential purposes ?
Commercial - my (newish) business is based around installing Asterisk systems for SMEs

3. Your History with Asterisk, Skill Level , ( I like to play a bit, I am a Asterisk Guru etc)
Moderate to high in some areas of Asterisk; but I wouldn't claim to be a guru.
4. Would you be prepared to be involved with any Trials (Conditions willy apply to this, ie no passing of any info we supply you etc)
Absolutely - love to help out in some trials - sign NDAs etc.

Update - 1

Ladies and Gents at this stage we are just collecting information on what versions are currently in use and judging user knowledge, appreciate the response's to date

We will not use everybody and will limit it initially to a a few select people with a greater technical knowledge as they will be able to give us the feedback we require a little quicker and with a little more technical knowledge on box changes when doing testing, after that we would look to use some other users to test any solutions (home uesrs etc) before a public launch.

As to when we will be ready to do this , No ETA yet as we are still scoping out the product so watch this space and I will advise if anything of interest or progress arises.

Yes. We would have a bent toward call quality as we are not getting this with iTalk at the moment.

1.4 from source now, was 1.21 IIRC

Yes, once number portability allows me to move my italk and telecom numbers to your service, until then would be happy to test on a smaller scale but obviously till people are calling the number at wxc then there will be no incoming calls.

Mostly commercial, some residential users.

I operate some 40+ seat multi-site call centres off Asterisk, so I presume this makes me relatively competent with it. Have been using it for about 2 years now.
