What are the chances of this being extended?

I'd say it largely depends on what the other two carrier decide to do. Telecom was first mover last time

The Telecom $19 plan also ends on the 31st Jan.

2Degrees are keeping theirs active until the end of June.

Maybe Telecom could be bringing out something else carriers don't need to follow

Thanks for pointing that out, I never realised they were special rates for a limited time.  I don't want to go back to half the data again.

I wish carriers here did what T-Mobile did in the Uk [at least] years ago [Maybe still do] where you paid a set amount and on your account which gave you a total usgae value, on your account you had had a three segment pie chart where you could select how much data, minutes, and texts you wanted by resizing the segements to suit your needs. You could have more data at the expense of one or both of the other two segements and the same with the other two. If you never call anyone, you could increase the other two to suit your anticipated needs.
The flexibility was great, the next month you could alter it once you worked out your realistic usage.

I am not totally happy with any of the telcos pre defined plans.  I looked at changing from 2D but no other telco offered a package that suited my needs or they were only doing it until the the end of Jan
If one had offered true flexibility I would be with them now.

My understanding is that Telecom's $19 plan is the same as Vodafone's, in that if you have sufficient credit each month it will continue to renew. The only significance to the 31st of January to that you have to have begun the $19 addon prior to that date.

It's now been extended until the 31st March, so no rush.

Telecom has just updated their $19 Value Pack to include free calling between Telecom mobiles until 31 March 2013. Now that's a pretty awesome deal!

What will Vodafone do, if anything?

Not bad, but you do need to check prior to calling whether the number is on the tc network or not. Otherwise you could end up with a big bill.
