I appear to be receiving a duplicate text message moments after I receive the first. This has been happening roughly every one in five text messages received. Does anybody know what could be causing this? These duplicates have been received from multiple people on multiple networks and it's been happening since just after Christmas. My phone is an Xperia Play.

Have you done basic fault checking and tried your SIM in another handset?

This happens cause the handset does not send the ack back correctly so the SMSR pushes out the SMS again

I have this issue too.
This only happens when the sender is on the vodafone network as well, not all friends on vodafone, just a few people.

MOBILE: Huawei P30
OTHER: Thinkpad E14 + Asus Vivobook + Intel NUC5i3 + A family of Raspberry Pi x 9 + Amazon Echo

As above basic fault checking and also make sure handset has latest updates,
