Am toying with getting UFB fibre but was reading about increased line speed with installing a master filter.

I am in newer area and the distance from cabinet to house is 650m (as per google maps)
The phone sockets are probably daisy chained so realise this will impact my line speed. As am a VFX customer I only need 1 socket to work and if I go to fibre then this will be the same so wanted a few suggestions.

If install a master filter in roof and just send the cable to the one socket I am using for DSL. What sort of cable to connect to that socket?
Normal telecom stuff (excuse ignorance of correct terms) or cat5e
If cat5e what sort of wall socket do you plug into so that can connect to the dsl modem/ router.

At present I am getting the following
and would a master filter make that much difference?

Make sure you provide information for other users to help you. If you have not already done it, please EDIT your

- Type of connection (ADSL, ADSL2, VDSL)

- Your modem DSL stats (do not worry about posting Speedtest, we need sync rate, attenuation and noise margin)

- Your general location (or street)

- If you are rural or urban

- If you know your connection is to an exchange, cabinet or conklin

- If your connection is to a ULL or wholesale service

- If you have done an isolation test as per the link above

Most of the problems with speed are likely to be related to internal wiring issued.

intentionally slowing you down today (unless you are on a managed plan). Also if this is the school holidays it's

likely you will notice slower than usual speed due to more users online.

A master splitter is required for VDSL2 and in most cases will improve speeds on DSL connections. Regular

disconnections can be a monitored alarm or a set top box trying to connect. If there's an alarm connected to your

line even if you don't have an alarm contract it may sill try to connect so it's worth checking.

If you only need one outlet for the modem, and no phone, then just run a new cat3 or cat5 twisted pair cable from the demarc to the jack you need connected. With a single outlet and all the other wiring disconnected and eliminated there is no benefit from the master filter.

Looking at the stats, I would have though you would get a slight increase in sync rate as well. The HEC errors (although not many) are interesting on the upstream connection - possibly the daisy chained jacks having an effect...?

If you are in a UFB zone, it's a no brainer - get it. Pricing is the same as ADSL, and it's a better product.

Thanks for the advice.
As for UFB fibre, the problem I have is that world exchange don't do it yet despite offering myself as a test site for them.

Just thought i might be able to get a little more speed with little outlay as wanting to trial streaming tv

Ah well maybe wait for UFB
