Hi

Just a quick question.

I tried to set up a VPN with Astrill over the weekend, but after I tried to register Astrill told me that I was already behind a VPN or proxy. This was not the case at my end. I had disabled unblock-us before atempting to set up the Astrill account.

When I raised it with Astrill customer support they said it was an issue with my ISP (Vodafone).

As I'm happy on Vodafone - can anyone tell me if there are VPN services (apart from unblock-us) that work on Vodafone.

What are you needing the VPN for?

unblock-us is not a VPN but a DNS Service

I'm with Vodafone and use Astrill. So I don't think it's an ISP issue.

It is a Vodafone issue, read this.

You need to be on a static IP, but on a particular range to avoid the proxy - talk to their tech team, I've done it a couple times for my place and my parent's.

I should have been more specific.

I have a static IP and can use unblock-us, however I couldnt get Astrill VPN working with my current setup.

For some reason Astrill thinks I'm behind a existing VPN or proxy.

I've checked my native settings on my local machine - and this appears not to be the case.

Eventually I IM'd Astrill and "they" told me it was an ISP issue.

I'm not sure I believe them - I might try with another computer in my home.

Get vodafone to change you to a different range of their static IPs. See if this fixes the issue.

I'm working with Vodafone on this at the moment. Are you happy to PM or email me the first three octets of your IP address.

I've confirmed it isnt a device or modem issue, as I've tried Windows/Mac machines and various adsl modem types. Funny enough it works via Vodafone's mobile network.

Vodafone confirm I am not working through a proxy on my dsl - so this is starting to get interesting.

Not surprising. I've had similar conversations. You just need to get them to keep changing your static IP until it works.

They have specific IP ranges for cache bypass. I have tried two IP addresses with the same outcome. I'm interested in knowing if it does work for some Vodafone uses, they may be in an entirely different context to cache bypass.

I dont' have a static IP but works fine for me. Fluke perhaps?

Will check IP addy next time I'm at home and let you know Mark.

Just a short note to say this issue was sorted.

It appears Astrill were incorrect, and the issue was at their end.

Going forward I think it's better to email their support email address rather than rely on their live chat option.
