Has anyone manged to run this feature sucessfully?

On TelstraClear/Vodafone's web site there is a link to managing various bits of ones account and ClearNet email ... one of those being something called Remote Email Access.

According to the verbiage a customer can log-in to ClearNet and thereafter be able to use any other internet access network for email provided you use RPA ... in other words, when travelling away from home/work we should be able to send emails through Clear's SMTP server regardless of which internet access we happen to be on at the time, e.g. McDonalds, cyber cafe, CBD Free, etc etc.

However, no matter what settings I make in my email client (Outlook 2007), I cannot get the thing to work ... keep getting the "SMTP server unaccessable" message.

ClearNet say only that RPA need be invoked, nothing about TSL/SSL or port numbers.

port  25, authentication, no SSL.

Spark Max Fibre using Mikrotik CCR1009-8G-1S-1S+, CRS125-24G-1S, Unifi UAP, U6-Pro, UAP-AC-M-Pro, Apple TV 4K (2022), Apple TV 4K (2017), iPad Air 1st gen, iPad Air 4th gen, iPhone 13, SkyNZ3151 (the white box). If it doesn't move then it's data cabled.

Are you by any chance trying this on a Telecom connection?

Alexandru,

Nope, not Xtra/Telecom at all.

Tried using the Remote Mail over CBD Free, Vodafone, and CafeNet.

Public Wifi networks generally have port 25 restricted/blocked as well for security reasons (this includes Wifi access offered by Cafes, Restaurants, Hotels, etc - assuming they have a sensible IT tech)

If you are trying this from someone's home internet connection (who is not on Xtra) and it's failing as mentioned then that might be indicative of a problem.

Let me know which is the case, I personally do not deal with former Telstra systems yet however I will ask someone to have a look into this for you.

Alex,

Yeah, I know that .

As you suggest, I will try when using a 'known/registered' network, BUT that detracts from the whole point of being able to use TC Mail whilst travelling on business or holiday.

Cheers,

R.
