I recently moved house and I informed Vodafone 2 weeks prior. 2 days before I move I get an email that I will have to be without service for 2 days, (connection today 10/4). No worries I say...
But imagine my surprise when I hop on to my account and I see there is still usage on the line, where there isn't even a router on!

Have you ever sold a modem given to you by Vodafone?

Do you know the person you gave it to and what they did with it?

Good idea and I would advise them to remove your details from the modem

I did and it's on Orcon currently... Could that be the fault?

Interesting, since when the router shipped with customer details?

I had one in the past and never turn it on. I have sold it after moving to UFB!

Our system is updated with the serial number of every router we ship, so that as soon as it hits our RADIUS it auto-configures with the user account to which it was assigned. Deleting details from the router alone might not be enough to stop it logging in, I'm afraid. You'll have to ring us with the serial number so we can remove it from our zero touch provisioning database. or you could PM me and I'll get it sorted. :)

Cheers,
Lon

That is scary dangerous for a security stand point. Cable Modem's sure fine under total control and taken back at end and handled by staff. But that just sounds like a stupid idea for ADSL kit that can be moved around and is owned the user (well at I thought was). Is there a big sticker on them alerting users to this risk?

While you may think it's scary it's actually a pretty common thing for an ISP to do, not just in NZ, but globally.

Some ISP's use DHCP option82 for authentication which is based on your ISAM port. Many just use TR069 based upon the serial number of the router which eliminates issues with customers resetting devices or being unable to configure their device. It also eliminates any configuration before shipping the device.

ISAM port sounds fine as is under "control" but the serial number on the ADSL Modem, is just asking for trouble as mentioned above. And from ADSL modems I have seen shipped none of them have big labels stuck to the actual device saying instructions for disposal e.g. ring up and get removed from and the risk if they don't. I would find less of issue if the users were adequately informed but by the sounds they aren't.

Shouldn't the system also detect that there is two sessions for one user?
