A little while ago I asked here about reception problems. I've now reached the conclusion that I need to but Sony Xperia P phones - unless there is another model that has as good reception. The Xperia P was mentioned as having noticeably better reception than anything else. Trick is, it's not as widely available - and I'm hesitant to buy it without knowing it will give us improved reception.

So if anyone knows of anything else that might be as good, I'd love to hear. I'd also like to know if someone in the Hutt )or greater Wellington) has such a phone we could test at our place. Then I could at least know it was worth upgrading - even if I don't want all the added features.

Thanks

They're Nokias - can't remember the model number - 3-4 years old. Problems arose when we moved our office home (only 2km from CBD but on a hill - obviously partially hidden from nearest Vodafone signal). Elsewhere it's fine - but often miss calls at home - more often on one handset but both are marginal. Fortunately most clients now call us on the home number (and non-clients aren't so critical) - and if we're out divert that to cell phone.

The reason I want the particular Sony handsets is Consumer rated them the only phone with significantly better reception - so I could buy them (if I can still get them) but would like to know for sure they actually work in our area.

Of course I assumed other Sony's might have equally good recepton - but apparently not. Don't know how they let the Xperia P slip through - but the rest are all much of a muchness - unless there's a new one that's not reported - but a call to Sony didn't produce much help - they seemed surprised to learn the P had better reception than the rest.

Maybe you need to look into Sure Signal

Sure Signal in NZ would require me to change ISP's to Vodafone - not likely for various reasons.

Try a handset is in the same location that support 3G / UMTS on the 900Mhz band and see if that helps

Well, I checked the latest network coverage site and nothing's changed - we only show as 2, 2.5G. We're only 1km from the 3G signal - but that doesn't help.

3G / UMTS on the 900Mhz band doesn't really mean a lot to me - I recognise 3G but don't know what else is critical - but given 3G probably isn't supported who knows.

Our children both have newer Samsung phones - our son has the top end (well it was when he bought it) and our daughter's is further down the scale. I know they're pretty marginal when they're here - maybe I should check in more detail.
