Was trying to remotely dial into our office VPN using APN 'vodafone' (which is the 4G APN).  It seems that this blocks it, had to switch back to 'www.vodafone.net.nz' for it to work.

Hopefully this saves someone 20 minutes of frustration (cheers to johnr for his help)

oh great trick! I thought PPTP VPN was busted since the beginning of this year...turns out I was just on iphone.vodafone.net.nz. Changing to just vodafone allows me to connect home via pptp to monitor the cat on my home surviellance cams again!

FTW :)

Would be good to see this "fixed" so it can work over 4G too.

I went thru a long winded process with tech support and was told that there was no short term plan to fix this.

Have posted a thread about this around a month ago.

Kind of sucks as it would be really helpful to be able to work at 4G speeds over our work network.

Checked this out this morning and it looks to be all go!

Was able to connect in to out server and work away with amazing speeds! I never knew our server was so fast!

Thanks JohnR for the advice.

So just to check I understand this thread....
To get a public IP on a 3G/4G connection we should use 'www.vodafone.net.nz'?

Whereas just for general use it should be simply 'vodafone'?

for the Iphone = www.iphone-vodafone.net.nz now works with PPTP VPN connections, this previously didn't work which meant that you couldn't get on to VPN on 4G.

I am not sure what the APN would be for other devices, I haven't had a chance to try it out on my Ipad as it has been seized by my GF.

AFAIK The only two APN's which have 4G access are 'vodafone' and 'www.iphone-vodafone.co.nz'
