About an hour or so ago I rang TelstraClear to disconnect the phoneline that I never use, and will soon be replacing with VFX, however, now you must have a phoneline if you have Digital TV.

The TelstraClear CSR informed me that it had always been this way when I protested, but I know it hasn't - I'm sure that if you wanted TV without a phoneline, you had to atleast have the 10GB Cable internet plan or better, so does anybody know when the policy was changed?

You have always needed to have a phoneline to get TV since day 1. There was a change to allow TV with internet (and no phoneline) a few months ago and I had this confirmed to me.. I wonder what's changed or whether you've just got a CSR who is unaware of the policy change a few months ago?

That's what I thought too, but I was told that this isn't an option and has never been - I can't seem to find any reference to it on the TCL website, either. The CSR referred me to this page, [dated from 25 July] which basically confirms what she said.

It has been a requirement to have a phoneline with cable TV since Sky first signed a resale deal with Saturn. TCL have never publically said you can get TV without a phoneline .. they have also really advertised cable internet without a phoneline either. There has been a policy change within the past year or so that now allows you to have TV and internet without having a phoneline, I checked on this about a month ago because I was keen to get TCL digital to get a DVB-C card for my GB-PVR box at some stage in the future when I have some spare $$. The CSR I spoke to said she had actually signed a few people up recently who didn't want a landline. Unless something has changed in the past month I suspect you have simply got a SCR who is unaware of the current policies regarding this.

I would suggest calling again and hopefully you can talk to another CSR. The 10GB cable plan can have TV add on.

I started with cable internet (3 years ago) and later added tv on, as I know I cannot have TV without first have cable internet. So what I did was get cable, so the necessary cabling is in place, then a month later I added TV :-) Then they won't have excuse not to supply me TV as I already have cable into the place.

So yeah, try calling CSR and hopefully you can get someone that actually know the 10GB cable+TV option. IF not, tell them that you're interested only with cable internet and TV and have no needs for phoneline. Tell them you don't want whole-nine-yard-bundle except cable internet and tv.

Hi guys, thanks for your help :) It appears that when I last rang, I did get a CSR who was unaware of the policy, as I rang again today and was phoneline-free within 5 minutes.

So the policy is unchanged and you can still get TV+broadband without a phone?

The policy hasn't changed at all according the the CSR I just spoke to; "In order to recieve Cable TV, you must subcsribe to one other service, either a phoneline or a Cable internet plan with a usage limit of 10GB or more." That seems pretty reasonable to me.

This is definately not the case. You've probably encountered the same CSR who is obviously just answering the question based on their own knowledge which is incorrect.

From looking at their website they state that you cannot get TV with phone. I know this isnt the case as i was thinking about getting it a few years ago and was told they could do it.

However here under install code D it states that they can install TV aslong as you have an existing service, does nto state what the service has to be though. Thats the closest thing i can find as a reference to TV and HSI only on their website.

Yeah this used to be their policy.

I've been told two different stories over the years as to why this was introduced. First one being that Sky wouldn't get TV be sold by itself without a phone after Saturn dumped their own TV and signed their resell agreement with Sky. The second being their was no margin reselling Sky so you could only get TV if you had another service. This had to be a phone service initially but can now be internet.

My feeling is that the 2nd is probably closer to the truth..
