Hello,

Vodafone told me they do not lock their phones, I also found this topic answer by Johnr that they do not:

However why do they have this topic on their website?

T
he reason I ask is my partner has a contract with Vodafone, less than a month old but she wants to pay it off, will she be able to put in another SIM card (e.g. overseas with Vodafone UK) and still get the iPhone updates etc?

Thank you.

There are other options when going overseas with an account that has a fixed term contract. It may depend on how long you intend to be overseas as to the most cost effective solution for you.

For example; you could possibly suspend your account for max. 3 months ($10/month), then source a Vodafone UK SIM (prepay perhaps for a holiday?) and use that, then return to NZ to have your original plan continue on from where you left it. Would be best to call VF NZ customer support and have them explain the conditions re: account suspensions.

iPhone and app updates are done through an internet connection on the phone (could be through Vodafone UK's 3G, free WiFi at McDonalds, a friends WiFi internet, for example).

If you're only going for a shorter time-period, it may be worth utilizing Vodafone NZ's international roaming (works automatically on VF in UK), you won't need to go out and get a new SIM, but you will need to pay roaming charges, which you can find out about here:
