Hey guys,

I am currently with Telstra (now vodafone) and have been with them for years now, I am currently on the 150gb plan and it just seems I am paying far to much for what I am getting. I mean Telecom offers a plan at the same price but with 500gb instead of 150gb and 100/50 instead of 100/10.

Also don't even get me started on the youtube issues I have been having.... and the fact they removed the steam server

What are your opinions? And are you looking at changing ISPs or what?

Not sure what you are talking about:

Telstra (Vodafone) 150GB with speed 100/10 = $95.95 per month

Telecom 150GB with speed 100/50 = $139 per month

Telecom 500GB with speed 100/50 = $159 per month

How dear they remove a free service that costs them money to run that they don't get anything back from!!!

Seriously, there are many many ISPs to choose from. Just because your current ISP is a bit dearer doesn't mean they are rubbish.

The company i work for are Telecom dealers yet Vodafone approached us and gave us a better package bundle (phone, broadband and cells) than what Telecom can offer. You just have to ask.

There is no sense moaning on here. Just get on with it an change if you aren't happy. Next issue, is UFB even available at your property? Count yourself lucky TelstraClear had the sense to build the HFC network in your area giving you 100Mbps internet access while I wait for 2016 for UFB.

There was a discussion on here a few weeks ago re a drop in prices.

Check this out:

http://www.vodafone.co.nz/internet/naked-cable-broadband/

It does say pricing for new customers but I was on the Warp Speed 100 plan and I was able to change to the Warp Speed 150 at the lower price.

You can't compare cable to UFB pricing if you don't actually have UFB coverage.

Start looking at other ADSL2+/VDSL ISPs if you don't have UFB.

Steam changed the way the deliver services. They use the limelight CDN and have stoped using the local ISP servers.

Hi Keenbee,

If you'd like us to review your plan to see if we're able to offer anything better, please send me a private message with your contact details and someone will be in touch. As far as Steam goes, as mentioned previously in the thread, they changed the ways their services were being delivered and the things didn't work out with them.

Cheers,
Lon

Long discussion about this practically the same week the TelstraClear brand was taken over by Vodafone.

New plans came in effect for new customers, or for those who wanted to change (at the start the CSRs were not sure if signing a term contract was required, but it seems now it's clear it is). Existing customers were not changed to new prices (as it seems to be standard with most ISPs).

Steam was/is just a headache for everyone from what I can tell.  If you dash over to the Orcon web site forums you'll see just as many users moaning there about on net and off net data issues.

Really what you want is Steam chargeable and then just a much bigger data allowance then let the ISPs bash up the Steam guys about where the data is actually coming from.

As for VF/TCL, if you've followed my posts around here then you'll know that I'm not their best friend and ride the issues hard over the last year or so...

...but I honestly think things will improve.

The WARP value has improved recently, and I suspect, but don't quote me, that we'll seem more value as more network improvements are made.

I suspect that the guys simply can't push more data at us currently because of bottle necks in the network.  Do you remember the 'Free traffic weekend' that we had a while back?

Let's be realistic...  VF just dropped a big penny buying the pup, so they could pick up the customers.  Anyone who's spent just 30 minutes reading GZ knows there are issues.

VF have a proven track record in .nz of being quite sane.

Anyone who's sane isn't going to let all the customers just leach off to other providers just because a few more coins weren't spent upgrading the bits that are causing bottle necks.

However, at the same time, we have to remember that VF are having to get all those people in the two companies on the same page.  Common sense would suggest that they're running about having a good look at all the bits in both companies, figuring out which are the best bits and figuring out how to pull all that together at once....  man I wouldn't want that job and I take my hat off to the guys and galls who are doing it!!!

Now having said all that...  I'm lighting up my first VDSL service this week, so it's going to be interesting to compare the apples... price wise it's sharp and I agree with the suggestion that it's just silly to sit about waiting for VF to short the integration if there are better deals to be had.

But I'm also sure that VF are all over that reality, as the poster above points out, they're clearly keen to do individual deals where needed (being the inference I took from his comments) and I'm sure they're not going to leave things to long before bumping up the value because Chorus are clearly ramping up the drive in their VDSL department... have you just looked at the number of new guys on the block doing data on the Chorus networks?

D

Something is definitely happening as of the 10th - I'm still on a 15 Mbps plan InHome TC plan with the old Motorola modem. I just don't need more than 100GB a month, and I can do that on my current plan cheaper than the new $85.95 version as I've posted previously.

Anyway this evening I noticed my standard max of around 1800 KB's was happily sitting at a constant 2700 on a multi-stream NZB DL. Nothing to write home about (just here lol) could be a test or even be the old modems max out I have no idea. Speedtest says same old restricted 15 Mbps but I had well close to 25 for over an hour solid.
