Question: CoW or Permanent site?

http://www.fieldays.co.nz/PicsHotel/Fieldays/CustomPages/FullNewsItem.aspx?EventPage=1&rqEventID=279

Vodafone customers at Fieldays will enjoy a speed boost as the company switches on 4G - the world’s fastest mobile technology - at Mystery Creek Events Centre.

The company is also offering the chance to win a brand new Kubota RTV900 4x4, worth over $27,000 to visitors registering on its stand during the event.

Russell Stanners, CEO of Vodafone New Zealand, says the launch of a commercial 4G site at Mystery Creek is a major milestone for rural New Zealand.

"4G has captured customers’ imaginations, with over 60,000 customers now enjoying the benefits of 4G, only on Vodafone. We’re proud to be the first to bring 4G to rural New Zealanders at Fieldays."

If a permanent site, this is the first the waikato has seen of 4G coverage.

Anecdotally, Vodafone has certainly had a history of getting overloaded there so a permanent site is definitely welcomed. If i recall correctly, they usually bring in a CoW and theres another one built into the Vodafone truck. There's been a telecom cell (with 850 and 2100) directly on site since backs in the CDMA days and i've personally never had any issues with this. Unsure what 2degrees does but they have a cell at the airport and i believe a licence to transmit on site as well.

If i recall there is actually a RBI tower very nearby too.

A new tower went up over a year ago which I believe 2degrees co-locate on.
I remember reading in the Waikato times I think they were looking at putting their own type of ultrafast broadband in to ease congestion on the mobile networks

Vodafone have nothing licensed yet at around 1800 MHz in the public domain around Hamilton airport / Mystery Creek so interested to know how they plan to run LTE. COWs at Fielddays would be the appropriate method of coverage however

I spotted a couple of antenna panels, one inside and one outside the end of the pavilion. Thought this was pretty crazy the extent they went to, given the huge tower on the hill. On top of that it seemed the COW on the Vodafone truck was live too.
I assumed the small tower at the south end of the site was from another provider, unless that was Vodafone too.
Didn't manage to spot any Ruckus wifi APs but there were certainly plenty I could pick up.

Will we see any Hamilton upgrades in the near future?

Vodafone have some 1800 MHz licences for some Hamilton locations so they are getting ready for LTE at some point soon?

There is nothing at 1800 anywhere near the airport / Mystery creek however so it was a COW on-site for LTE coverage.

Edit: poor spelling

Johnr confirmed LTE is permanent site, so not a COW. Guess the license database is just not updated yet.
